Keyboard and mouse do not work after a Kaspersky Lab product has been uninstalled
In rare cases, installation or removal of a Kaspersky Lab product can be interrupted, which causes incomplete installation or removal. This can result in incorrect functioning of the keyboard or the mouse after the computer restarts; please allow a couple of minutes for the problem to disappear.
If the error remains, restart your computer again.
If it did not help, use the instruction below to eliminate the problem.
1. Create the Rescue Disk
If you do not have a product CD, you can use another computer to download the Kaspersky Rescue Disk from our website and put it on a burnable CD or USB Flash Drive. Not all systems can boot off of USB Flash Drives, particularly older computers.
2. Start the Rescue Disk
- Boot off the Rescue Disk, and press any key to continue.
- Select your language using the arrow keys and press Enter.
- Press 1 to accept the license agreement.
- Press Enter to start the Kaspersky Rescue Disk Graphic Mode.
- Wait for the Rescue Disk to load, which can take a few minutes.
After the disks are mounted (made accessible), the Kaspersky Rescue Disk scan program will open. Here you should see drive letters for each hard disk in the computer. By default, C: is your primary drive.
If you do not see any drive letters listed, it is possible the Kaspersky Rescue Disk does not recognize your hard disk controller. Although the Rescue Disk is updated regularly, not all computer component makers provide the drivers needed. You will need to use a Windows System Repair Disc created on the same version of Windows as the affected system.
3. Backup the Registry
Warning! Be very careful, changes in the Registry can result in unsolvable OS problems.
- Double-click on the Kaspersky Registry Editor icon, and wait for the registry to be loaded.
- Click the plus sign to the left of Microsoft Windows.

- Remember the value of the Current key in the right-hand frame.
- Do the same to go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ ControlSet00<the value of the Current key> --> Control --> Class. For example, if the value of the Current key is 2, go to the node HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Class.
- Go to the Edit menu and select Find.
- Type in upperfilters and click Find next.
There are many UpperFilters, but first one does not contain a Kaspersky entry. Looking for ones that start with KL. The two files are klmouflt and klkbdflt.
- Press F3 to move to the next UpperFilters entry. This time we see klkbdflt.
- Double-click on the word UpperFilters in the right pane.

- Choose Yes to confirm restart. You will see some technical data as Rescue Disk shuts down.
- After you see the screen go blank, you can remove the CD or USB Flash Drive.
- When Windows comes back up, check if your Kaspersky Lab product is still listed in the list of programs. If it is listed, please use the Windows uninstall feature, follow the prompts, and reboot the computer.
