An enormous number of new viruses and variants of viruses appear every day, therefore in order to protect your computer against infection, you must regularly update your Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 databases and at least once a week you must perform a full scan of your computer using the updated databases.
You will need an Internet connection in order to download updates from Kaspersky Lab servers. By default, the application determines the Internet connection settings automatically. However, if you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet, we recommend that you specify your proxy server's settings in the application.
When the application is updated, the following objects are downloaded and installed on your computer:
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 implements an intelligent system for downloading updates; it only downloads updates for components that are enabled, which minimizes the bandwidth and time required for downloading updates. As soon as a component is enabled, the corresponding updates begin being downloaded, providing up-to-date protection.
You can start a database update from the context menu by doing the following:

If the computer with Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 installed is not connected to the Internet, in order to update the databases use the Kaspersky Update Utility.

In order to view detailed information about your set of anti-virus databases through the application interface, do the following:
If you click on the link with the date of the most recent update, you will open the Detailed reports window.
