Concerning to Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 MP1

With Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 complex installed the administrator can install Kaspersky Lab applications on client computers remotely. The following applications can installed remotely:

  • Administration Agent
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows File Servers
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 SOS
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers

To install remotely the previously mentioned applications by the Kaspersky Administration Kit means the corresponding installation packages on the Administration Server are required. An installation package includes files, necessary for installation, as well settings that concern the installation process itself and the initial configuration of the product installed. An installation package can also contain a license key.

Product deployment task is created based on an installation package. When creating the task, specify the type of product deployment task:

  • Using push install
  • Using login script-based install

The choice of an installation method depends on the operating systems of client computers and network configuration.

Push installation

This method allows installing applications on selected client computers in the logical network. It is recommended to use this method when installing applications on computers running under:

    • MS Windows NT/2000/2003/XP that support this feature;
    • MS Windows 98/Me on which the Network Agent is already installed.

InformationTo save the network traffic when performing product deployment task it is recommended to configure Update Agents (intermediate storages of installation packages) in administration groups. When running the product deployment task the package is copied to the Update Agent storage and then depending on the Update Agent’s settings is either delivered on all client computers of the group or copied on a client computer on its request. Update Agent gets the package only on the condition that the task is set for at least one computer of its group.

If the Update Agents are not used in the enterprise network, then when the task is started the set of files for the application installation is copied from the shared folder of the Administration Server on each client computer to a temporary folder and the setup program is launched on each computer. Installation files are delivered by means of the Network Agent (if it is installed on a client computer) or by means of RPC (Remote Procedure Call).

WarningIf the Administration Server and a client interact via Internet channels or the connection is firewall-protected, shared folders cannot be used to transfer data. In this case, the Network Agent may be used to deliver the installation files to the client. The Network Agent should be installed either locally or by other methods on such computers:

Login script-based installation

This method allows you to start application deployment when a specific user logs on to the domain (several users).

According to the task schedule, record of setup program startup is defined in the login script for specific users. The application setup program is stored in the shared folder on the administration server.

When a specified user logs onto the domain, installation will be started on the client computer from which the user has logged in.

This method is recommended if you are installing Kaspersky Lab applications on computers running under

    • MS Windows 98/Me on which Administration Agent is NOT installed yet
