Fail to install a Kaspersky Lab product due to remains of Norton (Symantec)

Sometimes after removal of Norton antivirus from Symantec with the standard Microsoft Windows tools and after computer restart, some records may still remain in the system registry and prevent a Kaspersky Lab product from installation. That is why it is important to uninstall Norton antivirus before installing a Kaspersky Lab product. In order to fully uninstall Norton antivirus and its records from the system registry, use the following resolutions:

1. Uninstalling with standard Microsoft Windows tools

To remove third-party software using Microsoft Windows tools, do the following:

under Windows XP
under Windows Vista
under Windows 7
under Windows 8

On the start screen right-click free space.
On the panel that appears at the bottom of the screen click the All apps button.

In the Apps list find the necessary software and right-click it.
On the pop-up panel click Uninstall.

In the Programs and Features window select Norton.
The process uninstalling Norton antivirus from your computer will start (the process may take a minute).
In case of successful uninstallation you will be suggested to reboot your computer. To reboot your computer, select Restart.

When uninstalling via Windows standard tools some files and folders of the previously installed antivirus programs may still reside in the system; that is why you are recommended to check the Program Files folder. If the Program Files folder contains any subfolders or files of the antivirus programs installed earlier, you are recommended to remove them. Then, try to install a Kaspersky Lab product once again.

2. Uninstalling using Norton Removal Tool

In order to fully uninstall Norton antivirus, you can use Norton Removal Tool by Symantec (NORTON REMOVAL TOOL (С) Symantec Corporation. Distributed under the terms of the NORTON Software Tool Usage Agreement). See how to download a file:

Under Windows Vista

Try to install your Kaspersky Lab product once again after Norton antivirus is uninstalled.

3. What to do if the above resolutions did not help

If all remains of your previous anti-virus software were removed, or you have not had any anti-virus software installed on your computer, but you cannot install a Kaspersky Lab product, then create a request to Kaspersky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky Account service. Attach to your request a report of the Getsysteminfo tool. In the request, give detailed description of the problem and the actions necessary to reproduce the problem.
