Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Linux Mail Servers: Maintenance Pack 1 (build 5.6.38.1)

On November, 2008 Kaspersky Lab announces release of Maintenance Pack 1 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Linux Mail Servers (build 5.6.38.1).

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server is an anti-virus and content filtering application, able to intercept the incoming and outgoing mail traffic, scanning all messages as they pass. This is done by using MTA specific plug-ins, that send the messages to a central scanning service, which performs the analysis eventually applying security policies, and returns the results. Currently the following MTAs are supported: Sendmail (via Milter API only), Postfix, Exim and Qmail.

Changes added to build 5.6.38.1: 

What's new? 

  • Support for Postfix pre-queue integration has been added. 
  • Support for integration with Postfix via Milter API has been added. 
  • List of supported operating systems has been updated.. 

Fixed: 

  • (47597) Error causing application termination with the following message: "ERROR Engine problem: Communication error on loading bases"; 
  • (44432) Error in the log file "ERROR SocketException caught: Socket write error: Generic error"; 
  • (47196) Error while processing headers in case of integration with qmail. 

 

Product Installation/Removal and Upgrade 

  • Product installation “from scratch” 

To install the product from scratch, use the corresponding system specific command:

In Linux/RPM: rpm -i <package>.rpm 

In Linux/Debian: dpkg -i <package>.deb 

In FreeBSD: pkg_add <package>.tgz 

  • Upgrade from Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6.26.3: 

If you have Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6.26.3 installed and integrated with Qmail or Exim using dl_func, or the FreeBSD operating system is used, then the previous product version has to be removed first with the following system specific commands:

In Linux/RPM: rpm -e <package-name> 

In Linux/Debian: dpkg -r <package-name> (keeps configuration files)

In FreeBSD: pkg_delete <package-name> 

Then the new version should be installed using the procedure described for product installation from scratch.

For other integration methods and operating systems the application supports upgrade using the following system specific commands:

In Linux/RPM: rpm -U <package-name> 

In Linux/Debian: dpkg -i <package-name> 

  • Upgrading from other versions: 

Only the following versions can be upgraded to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Linux Mail Servers

    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Linux\FreeBSD Mail Servers MP2 CF1 (build 5.5.33.0) 
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Sendmail with Milter API Critical Fix 2 (build 5.6.20.2) 

Information You can use Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6 with your existing license key from the packages: 

    • Kaspersky Enterprise Space Security 
    • Kaspersky Total Space Security 
    • Kaspersky Security for mail servers 

We recommend the following method for upgrading:

1. Stop MTA and previous version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

2. Uninstall previous Kaspersky product using the method described in the Administrator's Manual. If the Webmin module has been installed, it should be removed using Webmin administration tools.

3. Install Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6 using the method described in the included Administrator's Manual. The installation script will offer you to convert the configuration file(s) of the previous version.

4. Check the obtained application configuration file.
