Applies to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations, version 6.0.4.x
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 SOS, version 6.0.4.x
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers, version 6.0.4.x
  • InformationUpdating from zip archives is not supported in Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0.4.x!

If not all of the networked PCs have access to Internet, you can use a special feature of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0.4.x which allows to copy and save a database update into any location: a folder on a disk or a network resource. Updating all PCs within a network from a single folder also allows to reduce Internet traffic.

There must be at least one networked PC with access to Internet to be able to copy updates this way.

Do the following to copy and save databases:

    1. Open Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0.4.x on a PC which has access to Internet. Go to Settings > Update > Configure > Additional tab. Enable Copy updates to folder option and specify the shared folder path.

Shared folder is a folder to copy and save database updates to. This folder can be on a disk or a network volume. The default shared folder is:

      • Windows XP/Server 2003: Disk:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP60MP4\Update distribution\
      • Windows Vista / 7 / Server 2008: Disk:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP60MP4\Update distribution\

    2. Apply the changes and run a database update task. Databases will be uploaded into the shared folder.

Database update and copying databases into a folder are two sides of a single process, i.e. databases are downloaded only once to save Internet traffic.

    3. Run database update on the PCs which do not have access to Internet.
To do it, go to the tab Update source in Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0.4.x update task settings.
Click the button Add and specify a shared folder as an update source. Apply the changes and run a database update task.

InformationThe resulting update package for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations/Servers version 6.0.4.x can be used to update antivirus databases on PCs which have Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations/Servers version 6.0.4.x or Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations/Servers MP3 installed. An update package received by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP3 can be used to update Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP3 only.

InformationAn attempt to update other Kaspersky Lab software using the received updates package, will result in an update error message.

You can copy the shared folder content onto a removable storage device. Then you will be able to update databases on any PC which has no access to Internet. You will need to configure updating from a removable media on such PCs.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus database updates can be found in the following folder:

    Windows XP / Server 2003: Disk:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP60MP4\Bases

    Windows Vista / 7 / Server 2008: Disk:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP60MP4\Bases

InformationAttention! The folder Bases cannot be used as an update source by other PCs.
