Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0

Using Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0, an administrator can configure automatic switching to an alternative update source for computers which occasionally loose connection to an Administration server. This function is carried out by Network agent. It switches Kaspersky Anti-Virus to an alternative update source after three failed attempts to connect to an Administration server (45 minutes by default). After a first successfully established connection between Network agent and Server, Kaspersky Anti-Virus will switch back to updating from the Administration server.

This function is configured in different ways for different Kaspersky Anti-Virus versions.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations / Windows Servers / SOS MP4 (versions 6.0.4.x)

When connection to Administration server is lost, Kaspersky Anti-Virus will use the alternative update source configured in a corresponding Update group task: tab Settings > button Configure in the section Update settings for mobile mode. By default when connection to Administration server is lost, Kaspersky Anti-Virus will attempt to access Internet to download databases from Kaspersky Lab servers.

Database updates will start Automatically.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations / Windows Servers / SOS MP2, MP3 (versions 6.0.2.*, 6.0.3.*)

These versions require an additional policy to be created to configure switching to another update source:

Create a policy for a corresponding application in the administration group housing such semi-mobile computers. Select Mobile user policy type:
Configure Kaspersky Anti-Virus settings to apply when losing connection to the Server in this policy. Specifically, define an update source which will be available to download updates from at connection loss. All these settings will be applied to Kaspersky Anti-Virus only if Network agent is unable to establish connection to an Administration server for 45 minutes.

Attention! The amount of RAM and processor types in Network Agent and Administration Server/Console are minimum system requirements to be able to install corresponding components. It is recommended to use computers with a larger amount of RAM and processor frequency.

Minimum system requirements to install an Administration Server:

Operating systems:
- [for versions 8.0.2048 and 8.0.2090 only] Microsoft Windows 2000 Server / Professional SP4 and above. Please be advised that Microsoft Windows 2000 Server / Professional support Administration Server only. This operating system does not support Administration Console.
  
  If you are working with operating system Microsoft Windows 2000 with installed SP4, you should install the following Microsoft Windows updates before installing Administration Server:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 and above;
  If you are going to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 as a database server, and it will be installed on the same computer as the Administration server, it is necessary to install SP3 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional on this computer.
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 and above;
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and above;
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 and above;
- Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 and above;
- Microsoft Windows Vista x64 SP1 with all actual updates,
  Microsoft Windows Vista x64 requires installed Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008;
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003;

Database Server (Can be installed on a separate computer):
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2 and above.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 and above (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is included into Kaspersky Administration Kit distribution package and can be installed directly from Kaspersky Administration Kit installation CD).
  If you are going to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 on a computer running Microsoft Windows XP Professional, please be sure to install SP3 for Microsoft Windows XP Professional on this computer first. Installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 on a computer running Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 may result in BSOD (due to incompatibility of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 and Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2). Kaspersky Lab is not responsible for this problem.
