Applies to Kaspersky PURE R2

The Application Control component logs the actions performed by applications in the system, and manages the applications' activities, based on the rules. These rules manage applications' access to various resources. In accordance with the pre-defined rules Application control allows, prompts the user or blocks the application. These rules manage applications' access to various resources.

How to disable Application Control

By default the Application Control component in Kaspersky PURE R2 is enabled. However if needed, the component can be disabled the following way:

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. In the right upper corner of the main window click the Settings link.
  3. In the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
  4. In the left part of the Settings window select Application Control.
  5. In the right part of the window uncheck the Enable Application Control box.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. Close the main application window.

How to disable automatic inclusion of applications contained in the Kaspersky Security Network database or having a digital signature into the Trusted group

At the first startup of an application on the computer, the Application Control component verifies its safety and includes it into one of the trust groups. Applications that do not pose any threat to the system are included into the Trusted group. By default, this group includes applications with a digital signature and with the trusted status in the Kaspersky Security Network database. If the program is not included into the Kaspersky Security Network database, in such case Kaspersky PURE R2 uses heuristic analysis to verify an unknown application. Instead of using the heuristic analysis, you can specify a group into which Kaspersky PURE R2 should automatically include all unknown applications.

In order to edit the settings of the Application Control component, please do the following:

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. In the right upper corner of the main window click the Settings link.
  3. In the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
  4. In the left part of the Settings window select Application Control.
  5. In the right part of the window in the Trusted applications section make the necessary changes:
    • Uncheck the Applications with digital signature box, if you do not want Application Control to include all applications with digital signature to the Trusted group.
    • Uncheck the Applications from Kaspersky Security Network database box, for Application Control not to include all applications with the trusted status in Kaspersky Security Network database to the Trusted group.
    • Define an action for Application Control after initial scan: Use heuristic analysis to define status or Assign the following status automatically (in the drop-down list select the group name: Low Restricted, High Restricted, Untrusted).
  6. Click the OK button in the Settings window.
  7. Close the main application window.

How to change the time used to determine the application status

Application Control analyzes the program for 30 seconds by default. If threat rating has not been calculated during this time, the application receives a Low Restricted status and is placed to the corresponding group. Threat rating calculation continues in the background. After the application has been studied with the help of heuristic analyzer, it receives the status according to its threat rating and is placed to the corresponding group.

You can change the time, allocated for applications analysis. If you are sure that all applications started on your computer do not impose any threat to security, you can decrease the time spent for analysis. If, on the contrary, you are installing the software and are not sure that it is safe, you are advised to increase the time for analysis.

To change the amount of time allocated to checking the unknown applications, do the following:

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. In the upper right corner of the main window click on the Settings link.
  3. In the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
  4. In the left part of the Settings window select Application Control.
  5. In the right part of the Settings window in the Additional section set the time to define the application status.
  6. Click the OK button in the Settings window.
  7. Close the main application window.
