What is Self-Defense
Self-Defense is a component that protects the Kaspersky Anti-Virus itself against malware aimed at disrupting or uninstalling Kaspersky Anti-Virus.
Self-Defense allows prohibiting the following actions:
- modification/elimination of Kaspersky Anti-Virus files, including program files, antivirus databases, quarantined objects, trace files, etc.;
- modification/elimination of Kaspersky Anti-Virus system registry keys;
- termination of Kaspersky Anti-Virus processes.
64-bit Windows Server 2003 / 2008 (without Service packs installed) allows protecting only against modification/elimination of Kaspersky Anti-Virus files and system registry keys.
It is sometimes necessary to disable the Self-defense to modify Kaspersky Anti-Virus settings, e.g. via the system registry.
