How to start a scan task in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012?

Scanning the computer for viruses and vulnerabilities is one of the most important tasks in ensuring the computer's security. The virus scan detects the spreading of malicious code, which has not been detected by the malware protection for some reasons. Vulnerability scan detects software vulnerabilities that can be used by intruders to spread malicious objects and obtain access to personal information. Kaspersky Lab's specialists distinguish the virus scan tasks:
  • Full Scan. A thorough scan of the entire system. The following objects are scanned by default: system memory, programs loaded on startup, system backup, email databases, hard drives, removable storage media and network drives. 
  • Critical areas scan. Virus scan of operating system startup objects.
  • System's and applications' vulnerability scan. Vulnerability scan is a special tool which helps to search and eliminate security vulnerabilities of applications, installed on your computer, and in operating system settings.
  • Custom Scan allows scanning any object on your computer.

How to start a scan task from the main application window

In order to start a scna task from the main application window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012, perform the following actions:
  1. Open the main application window.
  2. On the bottom part of the window, click on the Scan button.
  3. On the Scan window, perform the following actions:
    • If you wish to start a thorough scan of the entire system, then click on the "start" button in the Full Scan section.
    • If you wish to start critical areas scan, then click on the "start" button in the Vulnerability Scan section.

Information The full scan and critical areas scan tasks are specific tasks. It is not recommended to change the list of objects scanned by these tasks.

How to start scan tasks using created shortcuts

You can run scan tasks using the earlier created shortcut.

 

  In order to do this, double-click the required shortcut. The scan task will be displayed in the open Task Manager window.

How to view scan results

After the virus scan task starts, its progress is displayed in the main application window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012.

 

  While searching for threats, information with the results of the task execution is written into a report of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012. The main application window also displays the information when the scan task was stopped or finished. The time reference is a link to the report window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012.

Also you can find information concerning scan processes and results in the Task Manager.

How to stop a scan process

In order to stop the scan process, perform the following actions:

  1. On the bottom part of the window, click on the Scan button.
  2. On the Scan window, perform the following actions:
    • If you wish to stop a thorough scan of the entire system, then click on the "stop" button in the Full Scan section.
    • If you wish to stop critical areas scan, then click on the "stop" button in the Critical Areas Scan section
  3. Click on the Yes button to confirm that you wish to stop the scan process.
