A security level of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 components is a set of preinstalled parameters which is used to protect your computer.
For File Anti-Virus from Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 you can select one of the provided security levels or configure security level parameters manually.
Kaspersky Lab specialists do not recommend configuring security level parameters of File Anti-Virus manually. In most cases, it is enough just to select another security level.
How to configure File Anti-Virus parameters manually
In order to configure File Anti-Virus manually, perform the following actions:
- Open the main application window.
- On the upper part of the window, click on the Settings button.
- On the upper part of the Settings window, select Protection Center.
- On the left hand part of the Settings window, select File Anti-Virus.
- On the right hand part of the window in the Security level section, click on the Settings button.
- In the File Anti-Virus window, you can find three tabs:
- On the General tab, you can:
- Specify Protection scope. By protection scope is meant file locations and types to be scanned. You can change protection scope by adding/deleting objects to be scanned or changing file types.
- On the Performance tab, you can:
- Enable/disable additional scan method — heuristic analysis. When heuristic analysis is enabled, the application analyzes actions performed by objects in the system. Therefore, malicious objects may be detected earlier than they appears in anti-virus databases. For heuristic analysis you can select a scan level. The more detailed scan level is set, the more influence it causes to the system.
- Enable/disable scan of new and changed files and archives.
- Enable/disable scan of compound files. You can enable the option of compоund files scan and specify the required scan optimization settings.
- On the Additional tab, you can:
- Select a scan mode. You can select one of the following scan modes:
- Smart mode. Decision whether to scan an object is taken based on the object actions. The mode is set by default.
- On access and modification. The application scans open or changed objects.
- On access. The application scans objects only if you open them.
- On execution. The application scans objects only when they are executed.
- Enable/disable iSwift and iChecker scan technologies.
- Enable tasks pause option. Protection pausing allows decrease influence on the system and quick access to files. Two option are provided:
- By schedule. You can specify the required schedule to pause protection.
- At application startup. You can create a list of application at which launching protection will be disabled.
- Configure the required parameters and settings.
- On the File Anti-Virus window, click on the OK button.
- On the Settings window, click on the OK button.
- Close the main application window.

How to turn back default settings
Once you configure File Anti-Virus settings manually, the security level will changed to the custom security level. You can turn back the recommended security level for File Anti-Virus. In order to do this, perform the following actions:
- Open the main application window.
- On the upper part of the window, click on the Settings button.
- On the upper part of the Settings window, select Protection Center.
- On the left hand part of the Settings window, select File Anti-Virus.
- On the right hand part of the Settings window, click on the Default level button. The recommended security level will be set.
- On the Settings window, click on the OK button.
- Close the main application window.
