Scanning the computer for viruses and vulnerabilities is one of the most important tasks in ensuring the computer's security. The virus scan detects the spreading of malicious code that has not been detected by the malware protection for some reason. Vulnerability Scan detects software vulnerabilities that can be used by intruders to spread malicious objects and gain access to personal information.

Virus scan tasks include the following:

  • Custom Scan. A scan of any object in the computer's file system.
  • Full Scan. The following objects are scanned by default: system memory, programs loaded on startup, system backup storage, email databases, hard drives, removable drives, and network drives.
  • Critical Areas Scan. A scan of objects loaded when the operating system starts up.

A new functionality has been added in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 for displaying information about the scan tasks most recently run on the computer; this is called Task Manager. With Task Manager you can view the process and result of a task, and also stop a task.

How to open the Task Manager window?

To open the Task Manager window:

  1. In the lower part of the main application window, click Scan.
  2. In the upper-right part of the Scan window, click Task Manager.

or

  1. In the lower-right corner of the screen, in the taskbar right-click the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 icon.
  2. In the context menu, select Task Manager.

In the Task Manager window, tasks are placed in a list in the order of execution, the top of the list displaying the tasks executed most recently.

Viewing information about the scan execution process

During the process of a full scan, objects scan, vulnerability scan, or the removal of an active infection, the Task Manager window displays the following information:

  • Scan name and percentage of execution;
  • Scanning (name of the object being scanned and the path to it);
  • Remaining (time remaining until completion of the scan—the time reference also acts as a link to the detailed report window);
  • Scanned (quantity of files scanned);
  • Threats/Vulnerabilities (quantity of threats found and neutralized).

During the process of a scan while the computer is idle, the Task Manager window displays the following information:

  • Remaining (time remaining until completion of the scan—the time reference also acts as a link to the detailed report window);
  • Scanned (quantity of files scanned);
  • Threats (quantity of threats found and neutralized).

Viewing information after completion of a scan

From the Task Manager window you can also stop a scan by clicking the Stop button next to the scan status indicator. Confirm that you really want to stop the scan by clicking Yes

After completion of the scan, the Task Manager displays the following information:

  • Stopped/Completed (amount of time passed since completion of the scan—the time reference also acts as a link to the detailed report window);
  • Scanned (quantity of files scanned);
  • Threats/Vulnerabilities (quantity of threats found and neutralized).

When a Vulnerability Scan completes, you can go from the Task Manager window to fix system vulnerabilities by clicking Detected vulnerabilities.

After completion of a Custom Scan, the Task Manager window also displays information about the program from the Kaspersky Security Network databases. If you want more detailed information about file status, click Details.

How to clear lists in Task Manager?

You can clear the lists in TaskManager by clicking the Clear list button in the Task Manager window.
