When I try to activate Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 (2010) by an activation code for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 the error "The key file is not compatible with this application" appears. What should I do?

If you try to activate Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 / 2010 by an activation code for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012, the following error will appear on the screen:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 / 2010 cannot be activated by an activation code for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012.

In order to eliminate the issue, perform the following actions:

1. download the distributive of Kaspersky Anti-virus 2012 from the official Kaspersky Lab web site
2. uninstall the current product version from your computer:
   • How to uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009
   • How to uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010
3. run the installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 by double-clicking the downloaded ditributive
4. follow the Setup Wizard instruction to complete the installation
5. restart your computer
6. activate Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 if activation data was not saved during uninstallation.
