In order to change the security level of the Critical Areas Scan task, perform the following actions:

1. open the main application window
2. on the upper right hand corner of the main application window, click Settings
3. on the upper left hand part of the Settings window, select Scan
4. on the left hand part of the Settings window, select Critical Areas Scan
5. on the right part of the Settings window in the Security level section, select the required security level:
   • High. Select the level if infection probability is very high.
   • Recommended. The level is suitable in most cases and recommended by Kaspersky Lab specialists.
   • Low. Select the level if infection probability is low. Detection rate and system resources contribution is low.
6. on the Settings window, click on the OK button
7. close the main application window.

 

In order to configure additional parameters of the security level for the Critical Areas Scan task, perform the following actions:

1. open the main application window
2. on the upper right hand corner of the main application window, click Settings
3. on the upper left hand part of the Settings window, select Scan
4. on the left hand part of the Settings window, select Critical Areas Scan
5. on the right hand part of the Settings window in the Security level section, click on the Settings button
6. on the Full Scan window on the Additional tab, select the required Scan methods and technologies
7. click on the OK button
8. on the Settings window, click on the OK button
9. close the main application window.

By default, Select action automatically is specified for the Action on threat detection option. In order to change the action upon threats detection, perform the following actions:

1. open the main application window
2. on the upper right hand corner of the main application window, click Settings
3. on the upper left hand part of the Settings window, select Scan
4. on the left hand part of the Settings window, select Critical Areas Scan
5. on the right hand part of the Settings window in the Action on threat detection section, specify the required actions:
   • Select Select action automatically (if the automatic protection mode is enabled). In this case the application will select actions recommended by Kaspersky Lab specialists automatically.
   • Select Prompt for action (if the interactive protection mode is enabled). In this case the application will inform you about threats detection and prompt for actions to be performed: allow or block activity.
   • Select Select action:
     • Disinfect
     • Delete if disinfaction fails (Delete if Disinfect is not checked).

Kaspersky Lab specialists recommend setting the following actions to be performed on detected malicious objects:

• Disinfect
• Delete if disinfection fails

In this case the application will perform the following actions on malicious objects:

• Disinfect if the object can be disinfected. After disinfection the user can continue working with the object.
• Quarantine the object, if after scan process the application cannot determine if the object is infected. If you have selected the special option to scan the quarantined objects after databases update, then after the application receives a new disinfect signature the object will be disinfected and become available for the user.
• Delete if the object will be determined as a virus, but it cannot be disinfected.

6. in the Settings window click on the OK button
7. close the main application window.

 

You can set the required scan task mode: Manually or By schedule. You can find detailed instructions on how to configure the scan run mode in KB7014.

You can create a list of objects to scan. For example, if you do not wish to scan the whole system and all installed applications, you can create your own list of objects to be scanned and add applications, network and logical drives. Detailed instructions on how to do this, see in KB7111.
