Klactgui - remote client host troubleshooting utility

The utility klactgui serves to perform the following actions on remote computers:

Enable/disable tracing, change tracing level, download tracing file

The utility klactgui can perform these actions with the following software:

    • Network Agent
    • Administration server.
    • Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows.
    • Kaspersky Ant-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations (versions 6.0.4.x).
    • Kaspersky Ant-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers (versions 6.0.4.x).

InformationPlease be aware that the utility cannot be used with Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Mac and Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux.

The utility klactgui can work in two modes:

  • Access using Administration Server. This mode is recommended to access computers with installed Network Agent yet inaccessible by Microsoft Windows network means.

    The utility connects via the Administration server to which the problematic computer connects. If the problematic client computer belongs to a slave Server, and this Server cannot be accessed directly, it is possible to connect to it via the master Server,

  • Access using Microsoft Windows network. This mode requires certain conditions to be met:
    1. The remote target computer must be running one of the following operating systems : Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / 7/ 2003 / 2008.

    2. The following ports must be open on the remote target computer: TCP 139, TCP 445, UDP 137, UDP 138.

    3. You must connect to the remote target computer under its local administrator account (accessible Admin$ and permission to create services).

 

WarningUsability limitations:

    • The application can be stopped only if the corresponding service supports the stop function.
    • In order to be able to enable/disable tracing of applications with self-protection there must be Network Agent (even inoperable) installed on the remote computer.

The data will be downloaded into a folder on the desktop of the computer used to start the utility klactgui. To open this folder, click the link Download folder in the interface of the utility.

How to use the utility:

Start the utility on a computer with installed Administration Server or Console (Start > All Programs > Kaspersky Security Center > Kaspersky Security Center Remote Diagnostic Utility). Select working mode and click Enter to connect to the selected client computer.

Specify the following information critical to establish a connection, depending on the chosen mode:

  • Access using Administration Server:
    • Enter a computer name in the field Computer and select an account having permissions for connecting. Enable the option Connect as current user if you want to use the account used to start the remote troubleshooting utility.



    • Enter the name of a Server to which the client computer connects in the field Administration Server. You can leave localhost if the Server is installed on the same computer which you use to start the remote troubleshooting utility.

      If the client computer belongs to a slave Server which cannot be accessed directly, enter the master Server name in the field Administration Server, check the box Computer belongs to slave Administration Server and enter the slave Server name in the field Slave Server.

Warning You should enter the name of an account having administrator permissions on the Administration server.

  • Access using Microsoft Windows network:

    Enter a computer name in the field Computer and select an account having permissions for connecting. Enable the option Connect as current user if you want to use the account used to start the remote troubleshooting utility.




    WarningYou must connect under the target computer local administrator account!

InformationThe utility downloads files from client computers to the Desktop of the computer used to start it.

How to enable/disable tracing, change trace level, and download trace files

  1. Connect to a client computer

  2. Select the application you need to trace and click Enable trace... in the left part of the window.




    WarningAttention!
    • In order to be able to enable/disable tracing of applications with self-protection there must be Network Agent (even inoperable) installed on the remote computer.
  3. When the tracing is enabled, trace files become available as its items. To download a file in one piece, select it and click Download file in the left part of the window. Big files provide an option to download only final parts of traces.



    You can also delete a selected file. But you can delete them when tracing is disabled only.

  4. To disable tracing select a desired application and click the link Disable trace in the left part of the window.

How to download application settings, generate and download application dumps, upload and execute a utility, and download its results

  1. Connect to a desired computer.

  2. Select the computer name and click the corresponding link in the left part of the window:
    • Load application settings... – to download the settings of Kaspersky Lab software installed on this computer.

    • Start utility... – to upload a given utility to the client computer, start it and download the results of its execution.

    • Generate process memory dump... – to generate and download a memory dump of an application (enter its name).

Load system information (receive a GetSystemInfo report)

  1. Connect to a desired computer.

  2. Select the computer name and click the link Load system information in the left part of the window.

  2. Select a desired event log and click the link Download event log… in the left part of the window.

  1. Connect to a desired computer.

  2. Select the application Kaspersky Network Agent and click the link Run diagnostics in the left part of the window.


  3. Download the generated diagnostics report:

How to stop and start applications

WarningIt is possible to stop an application if the corresponding service supports the stop command.


  1. Connect to a desired computer.
  2. Select a desired application in the tree and click the corresponding link in the left part of the window:
    • Stop application
    • Restart application
    • Start application
