“Cannot initialize the snap-in” error in the MMC console

Sometimes a “Cannot initialize the snap-in” error may occur when starting the Administration console.

 

This error can be eliminated the following way:

  • Delete the CS Admin Kit.msc file in the following folder:
    • С:\Users\<user_account>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC\ in Windows Vista, 7, 2008. 
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<user_account>\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC\ in Windows XP.

All the data on client hosts, groups, tasks and policies will be preserved.
