When you create a policy, the root protection profile is assigned to all the vCenter server virtual machines.

You can create a custom protection profile and assign it to the virtual machines:
  • Open the Administration console.
  • Go to the Managed computers node and select the KSC cluster node.
  • Open the Policies tab in the right frame.
  • Right-click the policy and open its properties.

  • Go to the Protected section in policy properties.
  • Click Connect in the right frame.
  • Enter vCenter server connection settings in the Vmware vCenter Server connection settings window.

VMware vCenter Server address is the vCenter server IP address or FQDN.
User name and Password – login and password of a user account permitted to read VMware objects (virtual machines).

  • Click OK.

  • Once the connection is established, the KSC cluster protected infrastructure will be displayed in the right frame. According to the configuration, this includes: vCenter server, data processing centers, VMware clusters, ESXi hosts, resource pools, vApp objects, virtual machines.

  • Then perform the following as necessary:

    • If you want to assign the protection profile to a single virtual machine, select that machine in the table.
    • If you want to assign the protection profile to all the child virtual machines of the given VMware object (e.g. the 192.168.10.20 ESXi host), select the parent object.
    • If you want to assign the profile to a selection, select the target virtual machines holding the Ctrl button pressed.

  • Click Assign protection profile.
  • Select an option in the Assigned protection profile window:

Parent <Name>, where Name is the name of the protection profile assigned to the parent object. In this case the parent object protection profile is assigned to the virtual machine.

Selected – the virtual machine is assigned with one of the protection profiles existing in the policy.

  • Click OK in the Assigned protection profile window.

The selected protection profile will be assigned to the object and to the child objects (if any) not having an explicitly assigned protection profile. The assigned protection profile is displayed in the Protection profile column against the corresponding virtual infrastructure object.

  • Click OK in the policy properties.
