On 11 May 2012 Kaspersky Lab announced the release of Critical Fix 1 (version 8.1.0.831) for Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows Workstations version 8.1.0.646.

Critical Fix 1 is integrated in Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows Workstations installation package.

Changes in version 8.1.0.831 (as compared with 8.1.0.646)

Issues fixed:

  • When banner ads are blocked on web pages, an empty image of the same size as the banner is now displayed in place of the banner.
  • When files are rescanned through the Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console, all files are processed, not just the first file.
  • It is now impossible to enable protection with a blank password, and it is also impossible to set a blank list of protected operations as a password scope.
  • This release fixes the issue that generated an incorrect email address when forwarding quarantined files to Kaspersky Lab for examination.
  • This release fixes the issue with system process information displayed in Network Monitor settings.
  • This release fixes the issue with incorrectly decrypted passwords set in a Kaspersky Security Center policy for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP4 when converting a Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP4 policy into a policy for Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused incomplete conversion of update task settings for local and mobile modes when converting Kaspersky Security Center policies for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP4 into policies for Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows.
  • This release fixes the issue that sometimes caused BSOD in Microsoft Windows XP x64 when applying Kaspersky Security Center policies.
  • This release fixes the procedure for adding exceptions in the Kaspersky Security Center Policy Creation Wizard.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused new protected resources added to a Kaspersky Security Center policy to be displayed as Unknown Applications.

  • This release fixes the issue with updating the date of the last on-demand scan in the computer properties window in the Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused excessively frequent generation of messages in the Windows event log.
  • This release fixes issues with entering file paths containing environment variables in the Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console when configuring specific files to be scanned.
  • When using the Sysprep utility, the image of the operating system is now correctly prepared and distributed to other computers. There is still one known constraint: in Microsoft Windows 7, you must turn off Self-Defense before creating the image.
  • This release fixes issues with the localization of certain application windows.
  • This release fixes an issue with adding a new address to web resource access rules in a Kaspersky Security Center policy.
  • This release fixes an issue with remote installation of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows using the external file cleaner.cab.

  • The local update task no longer disappears from the task list in computer properties in the Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console when applying a policy for the specific computer.
  • This release fixes an issue with using a Kaspersky Security Center policy to configure links to web resources with support information that appear in the Support window of the application's local interface instead of standard links.
  • This release fixes an issue with the password set through a Kaspersky Security Center policy to protect access to the functions and settings of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows on the user's computer. The password set through a Kaspersky Security Center policy now works fine.
  • The main application window now displays the correct number of signatures in the application's anti-virus databases.
  • This release fixes the behavior of the list in the Firewall window on the Application control rules tab.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused the user input to disappear when sending messages using built-in forms of Microsoft Outlook 2010.
  • This release fixes the issue with protecting a scan task with a password to prevent it from being stopped. If a password is set to prevent a scan task from being stopped, the user can no longer stop a device scan that starts automatically when the device is connected.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused the Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console to stop working if there were no permissions to write to certain registry keys.
  • In the context menu of the application icon located in the Microsoft Windows taskbar notification area, the Pause protection option is no longer accessible if a Kaspersky Security Center policy is applied and active.
  • On the Vulnerabilities tab in the Reports and Storages window in the application's local interface, the Rescan button used to retest vulnerabilities is now accessible or inaccessible depending on the status of the "Allow local tasks to be displayed and managed" check box in the Kaspersky Security Center active policy settings.
  • Application components no longer query KSN if use of KSN is disabled in the application settings.
  • When creating a Kaspersky Security Center policy, the "Monitor all ports for specified applications" check box is now unselected by default in the Network ports window of policy settings.
  • This release fixes the issue that caused file paths containing symbols in country-specific encodings to be incorrectly displayed in certain application windows.

Improvements:

  • This release was built with new anti-virus databases and INI files used to identify incompatible products.
  • This release includes all fixes from public patches A and B.
  • Network traffic generated by the application has been decreased, application stability has been enhanced, and the application's load on the operating system has been reduced.
  • The application's main window now opens faster when first started.
  • A progress indicator is now displayed when the list of started programs is populated to build the list of trusted applications.
  • Support for embedded operating systems has been improved.
  • There is now more information displayed in Kaspersky Security Center reports on infected and potentially infected files.
  • The number of events reported to Kaspersky Security Center has been reduced, which reduces the load on Kaspersky Security Center and on the local network.
  • Now less restarts of the operating system are required for remote installation of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows as well as for detection of programs that are incompatible with Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows.

Changes:

  • After installing Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows, the Vulnerability Monitor component is disabled by default. If an application is installed over a previous version, the status of a component will remain the same as it was in the previous version of the application.

Limitations and known issues:

  • If a Kaspersky Security Center policy, which blocks the running of local tasks, is applied to the computer, the local update task may sometimes generate the event "Task startup failed. Reason: Running the task is prohibited by the policy" if the "Automatically" task run mode was set for the update task. This issue may be avoided by setting any other task run mode for the update task.
