A policy defines the application settings.
A policy can be used to configure common application settings for client hosts in an administration group. A policy is assigned to a KSC cluster and applies to all its Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 2.0 SVMs. When creating a policy, you can configure Root protection profile.

A protection profile defines anti-virus protection settings in a SVM policy.
Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 2.0 helps to protect VMs using the anti-virus protection settings configured in the corresponding protection profiles.

You can create, modify, and delete protection profiles in the Administration Console. Kaspersky Security Center 10 has a protection profile inheritance mechanism. A protection profile assigned to a VMware inventory object (e.g., ESXi host) is inherited by all of its child objects, including virtual machines, unless the child object / virtual machine has been assigned a protection profile of its own. The inheritance mechanism allows applying uniform anti-virus protection settings to several virtual machines.
