How to update or upgrade Kaspersky Administration Kit

1. from the Kaspersky Lab’s sites download the distributive of Kaspersky Administration Kit - build 6.0.1707. The distributive consists of several files:

    • kasp6.0.1707_adminkiten.exe – installer of Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 MP2 (build 6.0.1707)
    • kasp6.0.1707_netagentmsien.exe - MSI-installer of Administration Agent version 6.0.1707.
    • kasp5.0.0474_netagenten.exe – installer of Administration Agent version 5.0.0474 to provide centralized management of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for ISA Servers 2000 Enterprise Edition
    • kasp6.0.1405_netagenten.exe – installer of Administration Agent version 6.0.1405 to provide centralized management by:
      • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations
      • Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0
      • Kaspersky Security 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
      • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003

Warning To manage the above mentioned applications it is recommended to use the Administration Agent version 6.0.1405 due to detected incompatibility of Administration Agent version 6.0.1427 and above with the application.

2. Back up Administration Server data using the klbackup.exe tool or the Administration Server backup task

Information Please note that the Server certificate must be saved for a complete restoration of Administration Server data (this note concerns only Administration Servers versions 5.0.0.474 and below – in the later version the certificate is saved automatically).

3. Initiate a Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 install on the host with the Administration Server installed and perform a Server upgrade. The new version of the Administration Server is backward compatible. All data related to the previous version of the Administration Server will be saved.

4. Run the Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 installer on other workstations of administrators (on the computers with the Console installed without the Server) to update version of the Administration Console.

Open the Console, connect to the Server and check if policies and tasks were updated correctly.

If the Server was updated unsuccessfully, reinstall the Administration Server and restore the backup copy of the Server data.

5. For client computer with one of the following products installed:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 SOS

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows File Servers

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition

create either group or global install task for Administration Agent version 6.0.1707. Run the task for execution either manually or by schedule. Once the task has been successfully performed the version of Administration Agent will be updated on client computers.

Information In Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 the Network Agent, installed via MSI, can be updated either locally, via remote install tasks, etc!

6. For client computers with the following applications installed:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations

Kaspersky Anti-Virus SOS 5.0

Kaspersky Security 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003

create and run group/global uninstall task to remove the installed version of the Administration Agent.

Next, create a group/ global install task for the Administration Agent version 6.0.1405 and run the task for execution either manually or by schedule. Once the task has been successfully performed, version 6.0.1405 of Administration Agent will be installed on client computers.

Information On the computers with installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Novell NetWare, Kaspersky Anti-Virus Mobile 6.0 Enterprise Edition and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Linux File Servers\Workstations the version of the Agent should not be updated, as its connection with Administration Server is provided by special builds of Administration Agents which go with the application’s distributive.

NOTTE: On the servers with installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for ISA Servers 2000 Enterprise Edition the version of the Agent should still not be updated – version 5.0.0474 of the Administration Agent provides centralized management with the application.
