Applies to Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0

Installation of components

  • A simplified application installation mode has been introduced.

  • Application kit now includes the distribution package of Microsoft SQL Express 2005. Microsoft SQL Express 2005 is installed automatically if standard setup is selected.

 

Deployment of antivirus protection

  • Packages for deployment of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations MP4 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers MP4 are created during Kaspersky Administration Kit installation.

  • Added opportunity to create administration groups based on Active Directory.

  • Added opportunity to create a standalone installation package for Kaspersky Lab applications. Read more.

  • Several accounts can be specified in a deployment task.

  • The task for removal of external applications now allows removing several applications at once.

  • Restart settings for client computers can be specified in the properties of a deployment task (restart settings had to be specified in an installation package in version 6.0).

  • A new utility for preparation of computers for deployment has been designed - riprep.

  • Implemented functionality for updating in an already created installation package the databases which require to reboot client PC. To update these databases open an installation package tab General and click the link Update databases. This function is available for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations / Servers MP4 only.

  • Introduced classification of possible errors returned by the application deployment subsystem and added guidelines for troubleshooting of typical problems.

  • Added functionality for installing applications using Active Directory. Read more.

 

Administration server

  • Redesigned and extended system of access rights.

  • Added support for Microsoft NAP. The Kaspersky Lab SHV component (System Health Validator) for coordination with Microsoft NAP is only available when installing software on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 system.

  • Added automation interface for the Administration Server. Read more.

  • Added documented database views enabling users to create custom reporting systems.

  • Extended statistics of Update Agents.

  • Added opportunity to maintain a list of administrator comments and generate a corresponding report. The comments are added to client computer properties: click the link System Information on the tab General and go to the tab Comments.

  • Added opportunity to view the current user sessions on a computer and user contact information (in case of its availability in Active Directory). This information is accessed via client computer properties: click the link System Information on the tab General and go to the tab Sessions.

  • Added graphical interface for the klbackup utility for backing up and restoring data. Read more.

  •  Files of policies and groups tasks are distributed using multicast IP delivery provided that the necessary settings are selected in the Update Agent properties.

  • Wake On LAN setting is available for clients in subnets other than the Administration Server subnet.

  • Administrators do not see the objects for which they have no read rights in the Administration Console and during report generation.

  • Implemented opportunity to keep record of applications connected to slave Administration Servers upon downloading of the necessary updates.

  • An account not included in the group of local administrators can be used as the Administration Server account. Read more.

  • Implemented functionality of subsystem statuses in the administration system. They can be viewed as in “traffic lights” the console tree node Administration Server.

  • Added functionality for automatic updating of the modules of the administration system components.

  • Added functionality for creating computer selections including information from slave Administration Servers.

  • Added functionality for searching for groups and slave Administration Servers by Server hierarchy.

 

Monitoring

  • Added support for SNMP monitoring of the main settings of anti-virus protection in corporate LAN. The component SNMP Agent responsible for gathering SNMP statistics is available when installing on a computer with enabled SNMP support only. Read more.

  • Added opportunity to export reports to PDF and XML (Excel) formats.

  • Added opportunity to select all computers acting as Update Agents.

  • Added opportunity to select all computers with enabled option "Do not disconnect from the Administration Server".
    Extended information displayed in reports (in particular, in the license usage report).

  • Added new reports (report on most active viruses, deployment report, report on applications registry, events report, report on the versions of updates for program modules of Kaspersky Lab applications, and report on administrator notes).

  • Implemented data caching functionality for generation of summary reports including information from slave Administration Servers.

  • Modified functionality for restriction of the number of notifications sent within a specified time interval - now the restrictions are set individually for each event type.

  • Implemented functionality for stable collection of data for reports from slave Administration Servers even upon disconnection between the Servers.

  • Added opportunity to collect detailed data during creation of summary reports.


Client computer management


GUI

  • User interface of the product has been redesigned significantly.

  • Added support for dashboards updated in real time (Reports and notifications console tree node).

  • Added support for two sets of columns in the Administration Console.

  • Added new columns for the list of computers: "Restart", "Status description", "Network Agent version", "Protection version", "Database version", and "Turn-on time".
