On April 27, 2007 Kaspersky Lab announces release of Critical Fix 1 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Novell NetWare (build 5.7.1).
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Novell NetWare is an anti-virus application designed for protection of LAN file servers running Novell NetWare.
The given product represents the new version of already existing Kaspersky Lab solution Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.6 for Novell NetWare among those features are:
- Anti-virus protection in real–time mode
- Quarantine for dangerous objects
- Integration with Novell Directory Service (NDS), which means that the program can be administered via ConsoleOne and the web management interface
- Multi-thread scanning - simultaneous processing of requests from a number of workstations
- Multi-processor support - simultaneous launch of several antivirus engines
- Detailed reports using the results from on demand antivirus scanning, real-time protection and antivirus database updates.
The main difference in comparison with the previous version is ability to manage the product via Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Novell NetWare can be managed remotely through Kaspersky Administration Kit of version 6.0.1405 only.
Bugfixes:
- The mechanism initiating the update tasks has been modified. It is no longer necessary to load additionally the module updating the anti-virus databases in order to run the update task.
- An error occurring when the module updating the anti-virus databases works with a local source of updates has been fixed.
- Missing file klabResource.jar after installing the application from Console One and web module iKAV fixed
- Improved the performance of anti-virus database update module on Novell NetWare 5.0 servers.
Product installation and upgrading
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7.1 removes all the installed versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus. All the files, which are necessary for version 5.7.1 are modified, previous versions' configuration files are deleted.
If version 5.7.0 is already installed, you can manually update this version to version 5.7.1. The recommendations how to do are given it in the release_notes.
If Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7.1 for Novell NetWare will be managed through Kaspersky Administration Kit, a user should manually upgrade the Application Control Plug-in on all Administration Consoles via which the application will be managed.
For it unload the Administration Console and run the klcfginst.exe file from the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7.1 for Novell NetWare distributive. This procedure should be run on all Administration Consoles via which Kaspersky Anti-Virus is going to be managed remotely.
Known issues and appropriate solutions
- Kaspersky Network Agent (referred to as klnagent.nlm) is recommended when working in a protected IP address range of Novell NetWare Server.
- klnagent.nlm can be started by command:
load address space = klnagent klnagent.nlm
or by running nagent-5.ncf executable
- In case of failure klnagent.nlm can be shut down using:
unload kill address space = klnagent
- Managing the application through Kaspersky Administration Kit is limited to the following functions:
- of all the Network Agent management functional only agent port management function is available
- running tasks from a specified account is not supported.
- policies for mobile users are not supported.
- Kaspersky Anti-Virus install/uninstall via Kaspersky Administration Kit is not supported
- versioning of objects put into Quarantine/Backup is not supported.
