Concerning to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition
A key file is your personal “key”. It keeps all Kaspersky Anti-Virus information, such as:
- Distributor's coordinates (the name of the firm and its contact information)
- Information about support (who and where provides it)
- The date of the key release
- The name and number of the license
- Components functionality table
- License validity
There are two kinds of key files:
Commercial key file activates Kaspersky Lab's program products purchased legally for their further usage. When purchasing the product pay attention to its validity period.
Commercial key file is valid during:
- 1 year
- 2 years
- Any period (during Kaspersky Lab special actions)
When the license expires, the product will function, but will not update the anti-virus. It will disinfect infected objects using old anti-virus databases. The program will not download updates and patches for the application from the site automatically. Manually downloaded updates/patches will not be used either. Therefore Kaspersky Lab cannot guarantee you protection against new types of viruses and spam.
Users of commercial key files have the right for full technical support provided by Kaspersky Lab: either by phone or via the HelpDesk form.
Trial key file is used to try Kaspersky Lab products during a fixed period of time. Trial keys are granted by Kaspersky Lab free.
Trial key file is valid during:
- 15 days
- 30 days
- Other period (according to the arrangement with Kaspersky Lab)
When the trial key expires, the product will stop performing its functions.
The users of trial key files have the right for limited technical support provided by Kaspersky Lab by filling in the HelpDesk form only.
Once received, the key file should be saved on a separate drive (disc, flash, CD) to be restored when needed.
Without a key file the application does not function!
Each license key has several time parameters:
- key installation (activation) period. Usually keys have the validity period not less than 12 months.
- key creation date is the date when the key was created.
- date from which the key can be installed. For example, This parameter is set on September 1, 2007. If you try to install the key before this date the program will not accept it. As a rule this time parameter coincides with the key creation date.
- date after which the key will not function. This date is counted as date from which the key can be installed + 13 months (for the keys with the validity period 12 months). I.e. the key validity period is 13 months.
Thus you should bear in mind that if the key is installed 1 month after the date after which the key can be installed, then its validity period will be reduced. Example:
date from which the key can be installed – the 1st of September, 2007
key installation period - 12 months
date after which the key will not function – the 1st of October 2008
If you install the key on September 15, 2007 in this case the key will be valid till September 15, 2008 (12 months). If you install the key on October 10, 2007, the key will be valid till October 1, 2008 (11 months and 21 days). I.e. the key will function only till the date after which the key will not function.
Two keys can be installed in the program concurrently: active and reserve. The active key functions from the installation period. The program can have only one key with the active status. The reserve key is activated automatically after the active key expires.
