Concerning to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition
All Anti-Virus tasks can be divided according to their priorities: high priority have tasks that should be performed maximally quick, and low – tasks whose performance speed is not relevant. Both tasks of Real-time protection and all Update tasks refer to the first group, i.e. with the high priority. Administrator should decide which priority – high or low- On-demand scan tasks will have.
In order to give On-demand scan task a low priority > choose the necessary task > open its Properties > check Execute task in the background. By default the checkbox is clear in all On-demand scan tasks.
To control the optimal load on the server, administrator can change the maximum number of working processes, in which the Anti-Virus will perform its tasks. But bear in mind that increasing the number of operating processes accelerates the performance of the Anti-Virus protection tasks and the Anti-Virus tolerance, but at the same time it increases the load on the server itself.
Several different tasks of the Anti-Virus can be performed in one working process.
To set the number of active operating processes go to Kaspersky Anti-Virus node > Properties > the General tab.
Maximum number of active processes – sets the number of active processes of the Anti-Virus in which tasks of Real-time protection, Update and On-demand scan with the normal priority will be performed. The maximum number of processes is 8, and the minimum is 1.
Among all active processes you can set number of processes for Real-time protection. For it set the necessary number of processes for the parameter Number of processes for real-time protection. Value of this parameter should not exceed the value of the Maximum number of active processes parameter.
If the number of processes in Number of processes for real-time protection equals to Maximum number of active processes then it does not mean that tasks of On-demand scan with the normal priority and Update tasks will not be performed; several tasks will simply run in one process, which might influence speed of the tasks’ performance.
Use the parameter Number of working processes for background on-demand scan tasks to set the number of working processes with low priority in which the tasks of background on-demand scan will be performed. The maximum number of processes is 4, and the minimum is 1.
By default the box Use scalability settings automatically is checked it means the Anti-Virus controls the number of processes used depending on the number of processors and calculates these processes the following way:
- Maximum number of active processes:
- if you have 1 processor, set the value to 1
- if you have 2 or 3 processors, set the value to 2
- if you have 4 or more processors, set the value to 4
- Number of processes for real-time protection – set the value to 2 (irrespective of the number of processors).
- Number of working processes for background on-demand scan tasks – set the value to 1 (irrespective of the number of processors).
When managing the Anti-Virus via Kaspersky Administration Kit these parameters cannot be set via the policy. These are individual parameters for each server, which is why these parameters should be set in the properties of each client computer – protected server.
