Concerning to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
It is recommended to close all aplications before the installation
Step 1: If you purchased Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 on a disc, then the installation process starts automatically after the Setup disc is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. If you have purchased the product in E-Store you get a link to an executable setup file which should be launched manually. If the Setup disc does not run automatically you also need to run the executable installation file manually. For it select a disc and a folder where Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 setup file is located and double-click the executable file. After you run the executable setup file the Setup Wizard of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is launched. In the Welcome window of the Setup Wizard choose the setup type that best suits your needs:
- Express installation - installs the program with the default settings
- Custom installation – installs some anti-virus protection features only, but protection parameters can be changed during installation.
In order to start custom installation, check the Custom installation box and click the Next button.

Step 2: Read the End user license agreement of Kaspersky Lab. If you agree with all the terms click the I accept button. The installation continues. In order to stop the installation click Cancel.
Step 3: The Setup Wizard suggests to participate in Kaspersky Security Network. If you participate in the program, then Kaspersky Laboratory will receive information about new threats, detected on your computer, system information and send unique identification which is specified for your computer by Kaspersky Internet Security. It is quarantined that personal data will not be sending. Read the Data Collection Statement about using Kaspersky Security Network. If you agree with all the terms, check I accept the terms of participation in Kaspersky Security Network. Click the Next button. The installation continues.
Step 4: Select the folder in which to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. The default destination folder for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
Click Browse to change the destination folder. Click Disc usage to see how much disc space is available on your hard disc.
Click Next to continue.
The destination folder must not consist of more than 200 characters and include special characters. Step 5: On this step you should choose the components you want to install:
- Program kernel and scan tasks
- File anti-virus
- Mail anti-virus
- Web anti-virus
- IM anti-virus
- Proactive defense
- Application control
- Firewall
- Anti-Spam
- Anti-Banner
- Parental control
- Virtual keyboard
Choose the components you need to install.
In order to understand whether the component is needed for you read the fill-in about the component. To do it, select the component in the list and read the information in the lower section. The fill-in consists of brief information about the component and the space which is required to install the component.
In order to not install a component, open the contextual menu from the icon near the component name and select This feature will not be installed on a local hard drive. Notice that when you cancel the installation of any component you lose defense against a wide row of malware.
In order to select the component to be installed, open the contextual menu and select This feature will be installed on a local hard drive.
After you have selected the required components, click the Next button.
In order to install the components by default, click the Reset button.
Step 6: If you saved parameters and antivirus databases of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 which was installed earlier on your computer, then the Wizard suggests choosing the saved data.
Step 7: The Wizard scans the computer for installed third-party antivirus software and earlier Kaspersky Lab products which are incompatible with the installing version. If you install Kaspersky Lab Firewall, then the Wizard suggests disabling the Firewall of Microsoft Windows in order to avoid problems which are connected with incompatibilities of these firewalls.
Step 8: On this step you are suggested to specify the last configuration settings before the installation. It is recommended not to uncheck Protect the installation process. If some errors occur during the installation this option helps to backup correctly. When you reinstall the application it is recommended to uncheck the option.
To continue the installation click Install.
Step 9: Wait till the process will be finished.

Step 10: once program files are copied and the modules are registered the Setup Wizard suggests activating Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. This step is described in the article: How to activate commercial version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.
Click Next to continue after the product activation.
Step 11: Once the product has been activated the Setup Wizard allows you selecting one of two protection modes to protect your computer:
- Automatic mode – recommended by Kaspersky Lab experts decisions about potentially unsafe events will be made automatically.
- Interactive mode - decisions about potentially unsafe events will be made by the user. This mode is recommended for experienced users. The user will be asked to choose an action.
Select the necessary protection mode and click Next to continue initial configuration.
Step 12: Defense quality depends on databases and module updating. On this step the Setup Wizard suggests updating the anti-virus databases and specify parameters:
- Automatically. Kaspersky Internet Security check antivirus databases update on the update server automatically. The checking frequency may differ. It depends on whether it is an epidemic. When the application finds new databases it downloads and installs them. The mode is specified by default.
- By schedule. The update process will start automatically by schedule. You can specify the schedule by clicking the Settings button.
- Manually. You will start the update process manually.
Once the update settings have been configured, click Next to continue.
Step 13: As far as the computer can be used by different people with different computer skills, and the antivirus defense may be disabled by malware, you are suggested to restrict the access to Kaspersky Internet Security by a password. To enable the defense check Enable password defense and fulfill the Password and Confirm password fields. Specify actions which will be restricted:
- Setting the parameters – password will be requested when specified parameters are saved.
- Stopping application functioning – password will be requested once a user tries to disable the application.
Step 14: On the next step the Setup Wizard suggests selecting the threat types, whose detection will be enabled/disabled on the computer. Malware are always detected by Kaspersky Internet Security. Viruses, worms and Trojan programs are such malware.
Step 15: Make sure that Run Kaspersky Internet Security is checked and click the Finish button in order to finish the installation process.
