  • Step 1: If you purchased Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on a disc, then the installation process starts automatically after the Setup disc is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. If you have purchased the product in E-Store you get a link to an executable setup file which should be launched manually. If the Setup disc does not run automatically you also need to run the executable installation file manually. For it select a disc and a folder where Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009 setup file is located and double-click the executable file. After you run the executable setup file the Configuration Wizard of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009 is launched.

    Click Next to continue.

    Step 2: Read the End user license agreement of Kaspersky Lab.

    Click I accept the terms of the license agreement to continue.

    Step 3: choose the setup type that best suits your needs. 

    • Express installation - installs the program with the default settings 
    • Custom installation – installs some anti-virus protection features only, but protection parameters can be changed during installation.

    Click the Custom installation icon to continue.

    Step 4: Select the folder in which to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009. The default destination folder is 

    • for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 the folder C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009
    • for Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 the folder C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

    Click Browse to change the destination folder. Click Disc usage to see how much disc space is available on your hard disc. Click Next to continue.

    Step 5: On this step you should choose the components you want to install: 

    • Program kernel and scan tasks 
    • System Security 
      • Proactive Defense
      • Application Filtering (only in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
      • Firewall (only in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
    • Anti-Malware 
      • Files and Memory 
      • Email and IM 
      • Web Traffic 
    • Online Security 
      • Intrusion Prevention System (only in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
      • Anti-Phishing 
      • Anti-Dialer (only in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
    • Content Filtering (only in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
      • Anti-Spam 
      • Banner Ad Blocker 
      • Parental Control

    Choose the components you need to install. Click Next to continue.

    Step 6: Configuration wizard is ready to copy service files onto the hard disc. It is not recommended to disable the Enable Self-Defense option in case your computer is virus infected. Disable the option if you do not want to enable the application self-defense before installation. Click Next.

     

    Step 7: once program files are copied and the modules are registered the Configuration Wizard suggests activating Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.

    Click Next to continue after the product activation.

    Step 8: Once the product has been activated the Configuration Wizard allows you selecting one of two protection modes to protect your computer: 

    • Automatic mode - recommended, decisions about potentially unsafe events will be made automatically. 
    • Interactive mode - decisions about potentially unsafe events will be made by the user. This mode is recommended for experienced users.

    Select the necessary protection mode and click Next to continue initial configuration.

    Step 9: Configuration Wizard suggests updating the anti-virus databases: 

    • Update mode – select one of the update modes: automatically, by schedule or manually
    • Settings – click the link if you would like to change the address of the update server, save updates to a folder or specify settings of the proxy-server in your local network. 
    • Update now – click the link if you would like to update the product before the first product start.

    Once the update settings have been configured, click Next to continue.

    Step 10: in the next step the Configuration Wizard suggests selecting the threat types, whose detection will be enabled/disabled on the computer. You can enable/ disable detection of the following threat types: 

    • Malicious programs:
      • Viruses and worms (this option is always enabled and cannot be switched off) 
      • Trojan programs (this option is always enabled and cannot be switched off) 
      • Other malware 
    • Adware and other programs: 
      • Adware 
      • Auto-dialers
      • Other programs 
    • Compressed files: 
      • Suspicious compressed files 
      • Multi-packed objects

    Select the threat type which should (not) be detected and click Next to continue.

    Step 11: some additional protection parameters can be enabled: 

    • Disable DNS caching. DNS (Domain Name System) Caching: when first addressing to the network resource computer inquires the server DNS. This DNS is located in the computer cache and by further connections to the same network source this computer resolves the server DNS from cache. This option accelerates work of the LAN or Internet but decreases the computer security level. 
    • Log non-critical events. All events about the application functioning will be logged in the report files.

    Select the necessary options and click Next.

    Step 12: on this step the Configuration Wizard analyses the system and creates standard rules for the correct work of installed applications. Wait until the analysis is over.

    Step 13: the Configuration wizard analyses mail messages for spam and trains Anti-Spam component to later process mail correctly. Wait until the analysis is over or click Skip.

    Information Step 13 is missing in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 as the Anti-Spam component is a part of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 only.

     

    Step 14: The Configuration wizard suggests you to participate in the system Kaspersky Security Network. The system allows you to automatically send information about virus infections as well as extended statistics on loaded or executed applications. This information is processed by Kaspersky Lab’s experts and allows them to react faster to emerging threats and to constantly improve our products. Click the Next link to continue. Click Yes if you agree to participate in the system Kaspersky Security Network.

     

     

    Step 15: on this step you are suggested to restart your computer. Click Finish to finish installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.

     

     

    Information The dialog windows for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 are the same but with the corresponding product names.
