The article describes how to fully recover Windows 2000 system registry using the backup means. The backup means from Windows 2000 helps to protect the data if the hard drive work fails or if files have been deleted by mistake. Using the backup tool the backup copy of all data on a disk can be created and saved as an archive on another device (for example, on a hard drive or a tape).
Backing up the registry
To backup the registry in Windows 2000, do the following:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup
In the Backup window go to the Backup tab
In the upper menu select Job > New
In the left part of the window check System State
Check the files and folders which you need to backup
In the left down-corner click the Browse button next to the field Backup media or file name
Select the destination folder into which the archive will be saved
Click Open
In the right down corner of the Backup window click the Start Backup button
In the next window click the Start Backup button
Wait till the archivating process is over
Click Close
Minimize the Backup window
Restoring the system registry from the backup
To restore the system registry from the backup, do the following:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup
In the Backup window go to the Restore tab
In the left part of the window expand the File node
Then expand the file with the backed up copy (for example, Media created 24.11.2006 at 14:23)
Check System State
In the left down corner in the field Restore files to make sure Original location is set
In the right down corner click the Start restore button
In the Warning window click the OK button
In the Confirm restore window click the Advanced button, if the advanced restore setting need to be configured
Click OK to restore the registry
Wait till the restore process is over
Click the Close button
In the Backup dialog window, to finish the restore process successfully click Yes to restart the computer now or click No if you want to delay restart.
