Concerning to:
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 (all builds)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 7.0 provides on-demand scan of folders and files of your computer. By default The Scan section has four system tasks: Critical Areas, My Computer, Startup Objects and Rootkit scan.

Information In Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 7.0 system tasks cannot be deleted. They can be either stopped, run or paused.

Each virus scan task scans objects on one of four security levels

High speed – level with settings that let you comfortably use resource-intensive applications, since the scope of files scanned is reduced. The following settings are predefined for this security level:

    • Scan documents and programs (by content)
    • Scan only new and changed files
    • Rootkit scan in the operating system
    • Stop if scan takes longer than 180 seconds
    • Scan archives and embedded OLE-objects
    • Use iChecker technology
    • Use iSwift technology
    • Show detected dangerous objects on the “Detected” report tab
    • Concede resources to other applications

Recommended. Kaspersky Lab experts recommend this level. The scan works the same as on High, except for e-mail files. The following settings are predefined for this security level:

    • Scan all files
    • Scan all archives
    • Rootkit detection in the operating system
    • Use heuristic analyzer
    • Scan all embedded OLE-objects
    • Use iChecker technology
    • Use iSwift technology
    • Show detected dangerous objects on the “Detected” report tab
    • Concede resources to other applications

Maximum protection – the most complete scan of the entire computer or individual disks, folders, or files. We recommend using this level if you suspect that a virus has infected your computer. The following parameters are predefined for this security level:

    • Scan all files
    • Scan all archives
    • Rootkit detection
    • Use heuristic analyzer
    • Scan all embedded OLE-objects
    • Parse e-mail formats
    • Use iChecker technology
    • Use iSwift technology
    • Show detected dangerous objects on the “Detected” report tab
    • Concede resources to other applications

By default, Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 7.0 is set to Recommended.

Custom – a unique security level which differs from other above mentioned levels. Once the settings have been changed manually and saved, a new security level is created with the Custom name.

To modify the settings for a security level. Click the Settings button in the task settings window.

The following settings can be changed for any security level (High speed, Recommended, Maximum protection):

    The General tab

    • Scan all files. With this option, all objects will be scanned without exception
    • Scan programs and documents (by contents) - this option scans only potentially infected files – files which viruses can intrude. Before searching for viruses in an object, its internal header is analyzed for the file format (txt, doc, exe, etc.).
    • Scan programs and documents (by extension). In this case, the program will only scan potentially infected files, and in doing so, the file format will be determined by extension. Using the link, you can review a list of file extensions that are scanned with this option
    • Scan only new and modified files. In this case the program will scan a new file only once. If the file has not been modified from the previous scan it will not be scanned. Unlike iSwift and iChecker technologies this option allows not to scan the file till the file itself has been changed
    • Stop if scan takes longer than... secs. Check this option and enter the maximum scan time for an object. Then, if this time is exceeded, this object will be removed from the scan queue
    • Do not scan archives larger than…MB. Check this option and enter the maximum size for an object. Then, if this size is exceeded, this object will be removed from the scan queue.
    • Scan All/Only New archives – scan .rar, .arj, .zip, .cab, .lha, .jar, and .ice archives.
    • Scan All/Only new embedded OLE objects– scan objects embedded in files (for example, Excel spreadsheets or a macro embedded in a Microsoft Word file, e-mail attachments, etc.).
    • Parse e-mail formats – scan e-mail files and e-mail databases.
    • Scan password-protected archives – scans password protected archives. With this feature, a window will request a password before scanned archived objects.

Warning By default the Scan password-protected archives option is not enabled for the security levels – High speed, Recommended and Maximum protection. In this case when scanning a password-protected archive the Password protected! description will be given in the Events.

    The Additional button

    • Run this task as – defines the user account and the password under whose rights the scan task is started.
    • Enable iChecker technology – uses technology that can increase the scan speed by skipping objects that have not been modified since the last scan. It only applies to objects in FAT 32 file system.
    • Enable iSwift technology – uses technology that can increase scan speed by only scanning new and modified objects. There are limitations to iSwift™: it only applies to objects in NTFS file systems.
    • Show detected threats on the “Detected” report tab – display a list of threats detected during the scan on the Detected tab of the report window. Disabling this function may be appropriate for special scans or, for example, text collections to increase the scan speed.
    • Concede resources to other applications – pauses anti-virus scan automatically if other applications demand these computer resources.

    The Heuristic analyzer tab

    • Enable rootkit detection – enables scan and detection of the utilities which hide actions of malicious programs in the operating system.
    • Enable extended rootkit scan – enables more detailed/extended scan of the utilities which hide actions of malicious programs in the operating system.
    • Use heuristic analyzer – a method to detect new malicious programs by the actions they produce in the operating system. The heuristic analyzer can be set to one of the following scan levels: Shallow, Medium, Detail.

Information The dialog windows for Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 are the same but with corresponding product names
