Proactive Defense is a general name for the components and technologies that either prevent infections, or minimize their consequences as far as new malware programs are concerned. New malware programs are those that have yet to be added to the Anti-Virus databases and Kaspersky Security Network. Of the components described in the previous chapters, Proactive Defense includes Heuristic Analysis. The main role in this protection aspect belongs to the System Watcher and, to some extent, the Control Components. Control Components are described in the next Unit of our course, and this chapter is devoted to the System Watcher component.
