    Registry editor (Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe) is used to edit the system registry. Incorrect use of the system registry editor may cause malfunction of the OS. This may require re-installation of your OS. Kaspersky Lab does not resolve the problems caused by incorrect use of the system registry editor. When making changes in the registry, you should count on your own experience and knowledge.

    Exporting registry sections

    To export the registry section, do the following:

    Information The method given below is not supposed for exporting registry subkeys (example, HKEY_CURRENT_USER). If you have to do it, create he backup copy of the whole registry:

    • Go to Start > Run 

    • In the Open field enter REGEDIT
    • Click OK 

    • In the Registry Editor window find the necessary subkey to export 
    • Click the subkey to highlight it 
    • Click the File menu > Export 

    • In the Export Registry File window enter the file name and choose the folder to save the file 
    • Click Save

     

    Restoring registry keys from a file

    To restore registry keys from a file, do the following: 

    • To run the file, into which the registry subkey has been saved, to run the file 
    • In the Registry Editor dialog window click Yes 

    • In the Registry Editor dialog window click OK once the information has been added to the registry
