How to enhance the security of your Mac with Kaspersky Security Cloud
Kaspersky Security Cloud for Mac runs a check for the security of your operating system settings. If it detects any settings that may put the protection of your Mac at risk, you will get a notification.
To view all detected vulnerabilities and recommendations on how to fix them, click the notification or click Open Protection Center in the main window of Kaspersky Security Cloud for Mac.
How to adjust the preferences according to recommendations
The suggestions are divided into recommendations and protection settings which are crucial for the security of your Mac.
Recommendations
Recommendations are marked with the icon. Following the recommendations enhances the security of your Mac.
To implement the recommended adjustment:
- Go to the Recommendations tab.
- Click the button on the right that corresponds to the recommendation.
The recommendation has been implemented.
Protection settings
Protection settings are marked with the icon. They must be fixed to eliminate protection vulnerabilities.
To fix the vulnerability:
- Go to the Protection tab.
- Click More Info.
- Follow the further instructions.

How to enable System Integrity Protection
System Integrity Protection is a feature that protects the integrity of the operating system. If prevents malware from editing of system files and settings.
If the feature is disabled, you will see this warning:
To enable System Integrity Protection:
- Restart macOS in the recovery mode: press and hold ⌘+R on the keyboard during the system startup.
- In the upper-left corner of the screen, click Utilities → Terminal.
- Enter the command:
csrutil enable
- Press Enter on the keyboard.
- Restart your Mac.
System Integrity Protection has been enabled.
How to disable Kernel Extension Development Mode
Kernel Extension Development Mode disables the digital signature verification of drivers. This can lead to issues with the functioning of your computer, data loss, theft of confidential information and other problems.
If Kernel Extension Development Mode is enabled, you will see the following warning:
To disable Kernel Extension Development Mode:
- In the upper-left corner of the screen, click Go → Utilities.
- Run Terminal.
- Request system boot parameters by entering the command:
$ nvram -p | grep boot-args
- Press Enter on the keyboard. You will see the following line:
boot-args debug=0x14e kdp_match_name=en3 kext-dev-mode=1
- Disable kext loading. To do it, delete the parameter kext-dev-mode=1 and enter the command of the following type:
$ sudo nvram boot-args="debug=0x14e kdp_match_name=en3"
- Press Enter on the keyboard.
- Restart your Mac.
Kernel Extension Development Mode has been disabled.
How to enable automatic check for macOS updates
Updating macOS regularly enhances the security of your Mac.
If automatic check for updates is disabled, you will get the recommendation:
To enable automatic check for updates, click Enable.
