Anti-Banner blocks advertising information located on banners, built into interfaces of various programs installed on your computer, or displayed online. Not only are banner ads devoid of useful information but they also distract you from your work and increase the amount of traffic on your computer.

Kaspersky Lab specialists have compiled a banner ad mask list based on specially conducted research and have included it with the Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 shipment package. After Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is installed, Anti-Banner is disabled. In order Anti-Banner begins to use a banner ad mask list, perform the following actions:

  1. open the main application window
  2. in the right part of the main application window, go to the Protection Center tab
  3. in the right upper corner of the main application window, click the Settings link
  4. in the left part of the Settings window, select Anti-Banner
  5. make sure that the component is enabled (the Enable Anti-Banner box is checked)
  6. in the Scan section check the Use common banner list box
  7. in the right lower corner of the Settings window, click the OK button
  8. close the main application window.

Banners, which addresses are not included in the standard list can be scanned using heuristic analyzer. If it is in use, Anti-Banner will analyze the images being downloaded for features characteristic of banners. Based on such analysis, the image may be identified as a banner and blocked.

In order to enable the heuristic analyzer in Anti-Banner, perform the following actions:

  1. open the main application window
  2. in the right part of the main application window, go to the Protection Center tab
  3. in the right upper corner of the main application window, click the Settings link
  4. in the left part of the Settings window, select Anti-Banner
  5. make sure that the component is enabled (the Enable Anti-Banner box is checked)
  6. in the Scan section check the Use heuristic analysis box
  7. in the right lower corner of the Settings window, click the OK button
  8. close the main application window.

Also you can create a "black" list of banner addresses, which will be blocked by Anti-Banner when detected. While creating a "black" list you can use domain  or symbolic names of web sites (for example, banner.ru) and IP addresses of banners (for example, 64.236.92.17). In order to create and use the "black" list of banner addresses, perform the following actions:

  1. open the main application window
  2. in the right part of the main application window, go to the Protection Center tab
  3. in the right upper corner of the main application window, click the Settings link
  4. in the left part of the Settings window, select Anti-Banner
  5. in the Additional section, check the box Use the list of blocked URLs
  6. click the Settings button under the option Use the list of blocked URLs
  7. in the Blocked URLs window, click the Add button
  8. in the Address mask (URL) window, type the required domain name or IP address
  9. click the OK button in the Address mask (URL) window
  10. click the OK button in the Blocked URLs window
  11. in the right lower corner of the Settings window, click the OK button
  12. close the main application window.
