1. The concept of your computer protection

  • Protection against viruses, Trojan programs, worms, bots and botnets. The application protects the computer from all known types of threats as well as viruses, Trojans, worms and etc. using threat signatures (anti-virus databases contain descriptions of known threats and disinfection methods).
  • Protection against spyware and adware. The application protects the computer from all known types of threats as well as spyware, adware and etc. using threat signatures (anti-virus databases contain descriptions of known threats and disinfection methods).

  • Heuristic analysis use. Heuristic analysis allows detecting suspicious objects and objects which are infected by unknown or new modifications of known threats. Files detected by heuristic analyzer are identified as suspicious files.
  • Application's databases and modules update from Kaspersky Lab servers. Kaspersky Lab specialists find about 17 000 new viruses and their modifications a day. To provide ontime protection Kaspersky Lab products download regularly updated anti-virus databases.

2. Components and services of Kaspersky Virus Scanner for Mac

Kaspersky Virus Scanner for Mac includes the following components and services:

  • Scan for viruses. Scanning the computer for viruses is one of the most important thing to protect the computer. In Kaspersky Virus Scanner for Mac you can perform:
    • Full scan. In this case the whole system is scanned (by default, the following objects are scanned: RAM, startup objects, system backup, mail databases, hard, removable and network drives).
    • Quick scan. In this case critical areas scan is performed. Critical areas include the following objects: system libraries and folders.
    • Virus scan. In this case you can scan a specific object (a file, folder, drive) for viruses.

  • Update. During databases update process the following objects are donwloaded and installed on the computer:
    • Databases of Kaspersky Virus Scanner for Mac. Computer protection is based on signatures and disinfection methods contain in the application databases. Protection components use databases to detect and disinfect malicious objects on the computer. Databases are regularly updated.
    • Application modules. Application modules update packets eliminate vulnerabilities of Kaspersky Virus Scanner for Mac, add new functions and improve available functions.
