The Critical Areas Scan component consists of scanning the objects which are loaded at startup of the operating system, scanning the system memory, boot sectors of the disk drive, and the objects that have been added by the user.
The Critical Areas Scan task can be luanched by two methods:
Running the Critical Areas Scan task from the main application window
In order to start the Critical Areas Scan task from the main application window, perform the following:
- open the main application window
- in the left part of the main application window, select Scan
- in the right part of the main application window, click the button Run Critical Areas Scan

The information when the task was stopped or completed is displayed in the main application window of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. The time reference is a link which leads to the Critical Areas Scan window.

The same information when the task was stopped or completed is displayed in the Critical Areas Scan window. The time reference is a link which leads to the detailed report window.
The detailed report contains the information when the Critical Areas Scan task was started, stopped or completed and the list of detected threats with the link to the threat description.

Run the Critical Areas Scan task using an existing shortcut Critical Areas Scan
The Critical Areas Scan task can be run with the help of an existing shortcut.

To start the task, double-click the shortcut for Critical Areas Scan. The process of the task execution is displayed in the opened window Critical Areas Scan and in the main application window on the Scan tab.
