In order to ensure maximum security of operating system objects and of users' personal data, Kaspersky Lab has implemented the option of running third-party applications in a protected virtual environment named Safe Run.

If the application is not added to the the list of applications always run in the Safe Run for Applications mode, it can be run in safe mode using one of the following ways:

• from the Microsoft Windows context menu
• from the main window of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011

Applications running in the safe mode are highlighted with a green frame around the application window. Also information about an application start is displayed in the detailed report for Application Control.

The Safe Run mode, the component of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, doesn’t work with Microsoft Windows XP x64. The Safe Run mode works with limitations on Microsoft Windows Vista x64 and Microsoft Windows 7 x64:

• some features of some applications do not work
• Safe Run for application is unavailable.

In order to run an application in safe mode from the Microsoft Windows context menu, please perform the following:

1. right-click the name of the object selected: of the application's shortcut or executable file
2. in the menu that will open, select the Safe Run item.

In order to run an application in the safe mode from the Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 main window, perform the following:

1. open the main application window
2. in the left part of the main application window, go to the Safe Run tab
3. in the right part of the main application window, click the Safe Run for Applications button
4. the safe desktop will be launched.

In order to view a report on Safe Run for Applications of the Application Control component, perform the following actions:

1. open the main application window
2. in the right upper part of the main application window, click the Reports link
3. in the right lower part of the Protection state - Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 window, click the Detailed report button
4. in the left part of the Detailed report window, select Application Control
5. in the right part of the Detailed report window in the Safe Run section, you can find information on application start and stop in the safe mode:
• if the Yes value is specified in the field of the Safe Run section, the application was launched in the safe mode
• if the field of the Safe Run section is empty, the application was launched not in the safe mode
6. if you select the application in the Detailed report, you will able to view more detailes about the application in the lower part of the window that will appear
7. close the Detailed report window
8. close the Protection state - Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 window
9. close the main application window.
