Browser Configuration Wizard from Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 suggests to eliminate problems with Windows Explorer. What should I do?

In some cases the Browser Configuration Wizard from Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 may inform you on the Problems search completed step in the Additional Actions sections that you can eliminate the following problem: "Windows Explorer: display of known file types extensions is disabled".

In order to resolve the problem, perform the following actions:

Step 1. On the Browser Configuration Wizard, click on the Cancel button.

Step 2. Disable the option Hide extensions of known file types. In order to do this, perform the following actions:

For users of:

OS Windows XP

OS Windows Vista

OS Windows 7

 

For users of Windows XP

  1. Click the Start button in the left lower corner of the screen
  2. Select Control Panel from the menu that will open
  3. Open the Folder options window one of the following methods:
    Method 1. In the Tools menu select Folder Options.

    Method 2. If Control Panel is displayed as categories, then perform the following actions:

    • In the right part of the window click the Appearance and Themes link.

 

    • In the bottom right part of the Appearance and Themes window click the Folder Options link.

     

    Method 3. If the Control Panel is displayed in the classical view, double-click Folder Options.

 

  1. select Folder Options in the Tool section
  2. go to the View tab
  3. clear the Hide extensions for known file types box

        For users of Windows Vista

        1. click the Start button in the left lower corner of the screen
        2. select Control Panel from the menu that will open
        3. in the left part of the Control Panel window, click Classic View
        4. double-click the Folder Options itemgo to the View tab
        5. clear the box Hide extensions for known file types
        6. click the OK button

        For users of Windows 7

        1. click the Start button in the left lower corner of the screen
        2. select Control Panel from the menu that will open
        3. in the right upper corner click the Category link next to the View by section (Category is set by default) and select Small icons from the drop-down menu that will open
        4. in the All Control Panel Items window select the Folder Options item
        5. go to the View tab
        6. clear the box Hide extensions for known file types
