Fail to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2011/2012 due to 'remains' of Anti-Virus AVG8 in the system

Applies to Kaspersky Internet Security 2011/2012

Incompatible software AVG8 is automatically detected and uninstalled during the installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011/2012.

Solution 1: Uninstalling AVG8 anti-virus using standard Microsoft Windows tools

  1. In the bottom left corner click the Start button.
  2. Perform the following actions:
    • for Windows XP:
      • select the Control Panel item

      • in the Control Panel window click Add or Remove programs

    • for Windows Vista and Windows 7:
      • select the Contorl Panel item

      • in the Control Panel window click Programs

      • in the Programs window select Programs and components

  1. in the list of programs select the AVG8 anti-virus
  2. perform the following actions:
    • for Windows XP:
      • click the button Change/Remove (if you are offered to remove some common files click the button Yes, for all)
    • for Windows Vista and Windows 7:
      • double-click the application name
      • in the Programs and components window click the Yes button
  3. the process of system scan will start. Wait until the process is completed
  4. in the window that will open confirm that you want to remove the product by clicking the Yes button. Wait until the process is uninstallation is completed
  5. In order to fully remove AVG product from your computer, you will be offered to restart your computer. Click the OK button.

Try to install your Kaspersky Lab product once again:

If AVG8 anti-virus has been successfully removed from your computer you do not need to perform the following steps. If an error message informs that AVG8 anti-virus removal was unsuccessful you will have to follow the instructions below to delete AVG8 anti-virus manually.

Solution 2: Uninstalling AVG8 anti-virus using the utility AVG8_Kleaner

In order to fully uninstall AVG8 anti-virus, use a special tool. For this, perform the following actions:

  1. Download a removal tool:
  2. Run the avg_remover_stf_x86 file (for for 32-bit systems) or avg_remover_stf_x64 (for 64-bit systems).
  3. Wait till an informational message appears:
  4. Finish work of all programs on the computer and click the Yes button.
  5. Reboot the computer.

Try to install your Kaspersky Lab product once again:

If the problem is not eleminated, then contact AVG technical support to remove the AVG records remaining in your system registry.

If all remains of your previous anti-virus software were removed, or you have not had any anti-virus software installed on your computer, but you cannot install a Kaspersky Lab 2011/2012 product, then create a request to Kaspersky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky Account service. Attach to your request a report created using Getsysteminfo.

WarningIn the request do not forget to describe the problem and actions which are required to be performed to reproduce the problem in all details.
