Applies to Kaspersky Small Office Security 2 for Personal Computer
While working on the Internet, your computer may be not only infected by different viruses, but also attacked via vulnerabilities of operating systems and software.
To insure your security on local networks and the Internet, the Computer Protection functional module in Kaspersky Small Office Security 2 for Personal Computer includes the component Firewall. It filters all network activities using rules. A rule is an action performed by Firewall once it detects a connection attempt.

How to enable/disable the Firewall component
In order to enable/disable Firewall, perform the following actions:
- Open the main application window
- In the upper right corner of the main application window click the Settings link.
- In the top part of the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
- In the left part of the Settings window select the Firewall subsection.
- In the right part of the Settings window check or uncheck the Enable Firewall box.
- In the Settings window click the OK button.
- Close the main application window.
How to modify the Firewall settings
In order to change the Firewall settings, perform the following actions:
- Open the main application window
- In the upper right corner of the main application window click the Settings link.
- In the top part of the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
- In the left part of the Settings window select the Firewall subsection.
- In the right part of the Settings window click Settings...
In the Firewall window, you can specify the following settings:
- change network status
- allocate range of IP addresses
- select the notification mode
- block access of applications to the Internet
- create rules of the Firewall component:
- create a packet rule
- create a rule for an application
- select an action performed by a rule
- specify the network service parameters
- allocate the range of IP addresses
- change rule priorities
The network parameters can be specified while you are working on the network. You may receive notifications in the following cases:
- when network connection is established
- when the correspondence between MAC address and IP address is changed. The notification appears if in IP address of one of the networked computers was changed
- when MAC address appears. The notification appears if a new networked computer appeared.
How to enable notifications for Firewall
In order to enable notifications, perform the following actions:
- Open the main application window
- In the upper right corner of the main application window click the Settings link.
- In the top part of the Settings window go to the Protection tab.
- In the left part of the Settings window select the Firewall subsection.
- In the right part of the Settings window click Settings...
- In the Firewall window, go to the Networks tab
- In the bottom left hand part of the window, click Edit
- In the Network connection window, go to the Additional tab
- Check the required boxes for actions in the Notify section
- In the Network connection window, click OK
- In the Settings window, click OK
- Close the Settings window
- Close the main application window.
