Applies to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 8.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise Edition

It is very important to actualize Kaspersky Anti-Virus regularly to maintain fully functional antivirus protection on a server. It means updating databases of known threats and downloading hotfixes from Kaspersky Lab servers. Kaspersky Lab analysts publish database updates approximately every hour, and critical patches as necessary. Kaspersky Anti-Virus is able to download and install these updates automatically.

Developers sometimes release Maintenance Packs for antivirus applications. Administrator of a protected server should manually download and install such packs.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 8.0 for Windows Servers Enterprise has four system update tasks:

  • Program database update

This task downloads and installs antivirus database updates.

  • Database update rollback

Kaspersky Anti-Virus locally saves its existing databases in a special folder each time before downloading database updates allowing to roll back to the saved databases in case of an error.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus verifies all new downloaded databases and runs a Rollback task if necessary.

  • Program modules update

This task downloads and installs hotfixes for Anti-Virus. Administrator can use this task to receive information about release of new maintenance packs with links to its description and installation notes.

InformationApplication modules updates can be rolled back manually via Microsoft Windows control panel item Programs and Features.

  • Updates distribution

If Kaspersky Anti-Virus is installed on several hosts in a corporate network, and there is Kaspersky Administration Kit implemented, this task allows downloading database and module updates for different antivirus applications and store them in a folder accessible for all networked hosts. Then all hosts can be configured to update from that folder.
