Restrict access to websites and file downloads for a child or teenager
To protect children and teenagers who use the computer, you can restrict the following operations:
Access to websites that could waste time (chat rooms, games) or money (e-stores, auctions)
Access to websites targeting an adult audience, such as those displaying pornography, extremism, firearms, drug abuse, and explicit violence
Downloads of certain file types
Important: If you have installed the application version intended for use in the European Union, you will have to accept the Statement regarding data processing for Parental Control before you can enable Parental Control. The statement is displayed when you attempt to enable Parental Control for the first user account on your Mac.
In the left pane of the window, select the user account for which you want to restrict file downloads from the Internet.
In the right pane of the window, click the Enable Parental Control button.
In the left pane of the window, select the Web Control category.
In the upper pane of the window, click the Enable button.
Select the Restrict file downloads checkbox and the checkboxes for types of files that you don't want the user to download.
If necessary, you can allow access to a limited set of websites in a blocked category, or block access to specific websites while allowing all other websites, by creating a list of exclusions.
You can view a report on attempts to visit blocked websites and download files in prohibited categories on the Reports tab of the Parental Control window.
