How to monitor your child's app use

You can use Kaspersky Safe Kids to block or allow the use of an app on the child's device depending on the app content (such as games) or age category.

You can allow or block the use of specific apps on the child's device only in the premium version of Kaspersky Safe Kids.

To block, allow, or restrict the amount of time apps can be used:

  1. Tap Settings on the Kaspersky Safe Kids navigation bar.

This opens the settings for child protection.

  2. Select the child for whom you want to restrict the use of apps.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Switch on the Monitoring toggle.

On child’s Android devices, Kaspersky Safe Kids generates statistics on apps usage.

On child’s iOS devices, getting statistics on app usage is unavailable.

  5. To block startup of apps whose content does not suit the child's age, switch on the Age Restrictions toggle.

On child’s Android devices, Kaspersky Safe Kids blocks startup of apps with age restrictions. On child’s iOS devices, Kaspersky Safe Kids hides apps with age restrictions. Age restrictions are determined according to the rules of ESRB, PEGI, Google Play, and App Store.

Specifically, on child’s iOS devices Kaspersky Safe Kids hides all installed browsers because browsers have a rating of 17+ according to App Store rules. The child can use Kaspersky Safe Kids as a browser for Internet access.

Kaspersky Safe Kids on a child's iOS devices does not hide applications that have a rating of 4+ for children under 4 years of age since a rating of 4+ is the minimum possible rating for applications in App Store.

  6. If you want to block the startup of certain categories of apps, set restrictions for the app categories in the App categories section.

Kaspersky Safe Kids will block startup of apps from blocked categories.

Use of apps with specific content cannot be restricted on mobile devices running the iOS operating system.

  7. To block or allow the use of specific apps belonging to blocked categories or to restrict the amount of time specific apps can be used (available only in the premium version of Kaspersky Safe Kids):
    1. In the lower part of the screen, tap Exclusions.

      A list of exclusions opens.

    2. Tap Add exclusion.

A form for adding an exclusion opens.

    3. In the Device section, select the child's device on which you want to restrict the use of the app.

Use of apps cannot be restricted on mobile devices running the iOS operating system.

    4. Tap App.

A list of installed apps opens.

    5. Select an app whose use you want to block, allow, or restrict.
    6. In the App Use section, select the type of exclusion for the selected app: Allowed, Forbidden or Custom. You can specify restrictions by time separately for each day of the week or set a general restriction for all working days and a general restriction for weekends.

To restrict the app usage time for each day of the week:

      1. In the App Use section, select Custom > Every day.
      2. For each day of the week, specify the number of hours during which the child is allowed to use the app.

Kaspersky Safe Kids will force the app closed when this time runs out and will block the startup of the app during the rest of the day.

To limit the app usage time on weekdays and weekends:

      1. In the App Use section, select Custom > Weekdays and weekends.
      2. In the Weekdays and Weekends section, specify the number of hours per day during which the child is allowed to use the app.

Kaspersky Safe Kids will force the app closed when this time runs out and will block the startup of the app during the rest of the day.

  8. Tap Done.

You can allow or block the use of apps on the child's device on My Kaspersky.
