Error message “Could not enable some protection components” or “An update error has occurred”

If you get the error “Could not enable some protection components” or “An update error has occurred” in a Kaspersky Lab application, it means that some of the application files are corrupted and the application must be reinstalled. To reinstall the application:

  1. Download the installer from the Knowledge Base:
    • Kaspersky Internet Security 1918
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 1918
    • Kaspersky Total Security 1918
    • Kaspersky Security Cloud 19
    • Kaspersky Small Office Security 65 PC5 FS.
  2. Remove the application. Make sure the checkbox for License information is selected at the Saving objects step.  For the removal guide, see this article.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Run the installation file. Find the installation guide for your application in the list:
    • Kaspersky Internet Security 18, 19
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 18, 19 
    • Kaspersky Total Security 18, 19 
    • Kaspersky Security Cloud 19
    • Kaspersky Small Office Security (5 PC, 5 FS, 6)
  5. Activate the application. Find the activation guide for your application in the list:
    • Kaspersky Internet Security 18, 19
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 18, 19 
    • Kaspersky Total Security 18, 19 
    • Kaspersky Security Cloud 19
    • Kaspersky Small Office Security (5 PC, 5 FS, 6)

If the error persists, submit a request to Kaspersky Lab technical support with a detailed description of the issue:
