Depending on the settings of the bridge and what is included in it, the following special considerations apply to the MAC address table:
If MAC Learning is enabled on the bridge, when a packet with a previously unknown sender MAC address passes through this bridge, a new entry is added to the MAC address table.
If the bridge includes a BVI, its MAC address is displayed in the MAC address table with an age value of 0. This BVI entry is only removed after the BVI is removed from the bridge.
When you run the command to clear the MAC address table, all entries are deleted from the table, except the BVI (if one is included).
If a MAC Aging value greater than 0 is set for the bridge, then if the age of an entry in the table exceeds this MAC Aging value, such an entry is removed from the table.
Entries from the MAC address table can be removed automatically in the following cases:
All entries associated with the interface are removed if one of the following events occurs:
You remove this interface from the bridge.
You put down this data plane interface (with the down command).
You bring up this data plane interface (with the up command), but its oper-status is set to down.
All entries associated with the bridge are removed if one of the following events occurs:
You disable MAC Learning for the bridge.
You delete the bridge.
