Editing the registry

You can use the Registry Editor utility to manually edit the registry. The Registry Editor also lets you export registry keys for analysis. The utility is analogous to the Windows Registry Editor.

The registry stores data that Windows needs to work properly. These data includes profiles of all users, information about the installed software and types of documents that each application can create, information about folder properties and application icons, information about installed hardware and ports being used.

We recommend restricting the use of this utility to experienced users only. Editing the system registry can cause harm to the operating system.

To open the Registry Editor:

  1. Boot from the Kaspersky Rescue Disk.

After starting, Kaspersky Rescue Disk automatically runs the application for scanning the computer.

  2. Start Kaspersky Rescue Tool.

The main window of Kaspersky Rescue Tool is displayed.

  3. Select the Tools tab.

Kaspersky Rescue Tool displays the list of utilities.
