Creating a persistent partition

A persistent partition allows keeping application settings across computer restarts.

To create a persistent partition, you need Rufus 3.7 or later.

To create a persistent partition on the USB drive:

  1. In the main window of Rufus, select the USB drive that you want to make bootable.
  2. Select the Kaspersky Rescue Disk image file (krd.iso).
  3. Edit advanced settings.
  4. Set the Persistent partition size.

The minimum size of the partition is 1 GB.

    Configuring the persistent partition size

As a result, in addition to the bootable (main) partition, Rufus also creates a persistent partition for saving application settings. The persistent partition has an EXT3 file system and contains the persistence.conf file.

In Windows, the persistent partition is hidden. This is because Windows does not support the EXT3 file system. To delete the persistent partition, you must format the USB drive.
