Application activation and license key management

Activation is the process of activating a license that allows you to use a fully functional version of the application until the license expires.

To activate the Kaspersky Endpoint Security application on a protected device, you need to add main license key to the application.

If the main license which you are using for the application does not cover the additional Kaspersky Endpoint Security functionality that you need, you also need to add a license key to activate the additional functionality:

If Kaspersky Endpoint Security is used in Light Agent mode to protect virtual environments, the application does not need to be activated. You only activate Kaspersky Security for Virtualization Light Agent. Activation is performed on the Protection Server side (a component of Kaspersky Security for Virtualization Light Agent) by adding the license key on the SVM. A license key for activating additional functionality is also added to the SVM, if necessary.

If you did not activate the Kaspersky Endpoint Security application during installation (by adding a key to the installation package or by completing the initial configuration), you need to activate the installed application in one of the following ways:

To add an additional functionality license key to the application, you can also use the Add key task, the procedure for distributing a key to client devices, or license key management commands. Adding a key that provides the additional functionality is no different from adding the main license key for the application.

A key for additional functionality can be added only after adding the main license key for the application.

You can also add a reserve key for the basic functionality of the application and a reserve key for the additional functionality. A reserve key becomes active when the license associated with the active key expires or when the active key is deleted. Availability of a reserve key allows you to avoid application functionality limitation when your license expires.

A reserve license key can be added only after adding an active license key.

You can view information about license keys remotely added to the application using Kaspersky Security Center or the command line on a protected device.

You can also use the graphical user interface to activate the application and manage license keys.
