Configuring the SVM selection algorithm

This functionality is available only if you are using the application under an enterprise license.

To specify through Kaspersky Security Center which SVM selection algorithm is to be used by Light Agents:

1. Open Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console.
2. In the Managed devices folder of the console tree, select the folder with the name of the administration group for whose protected virtual machines you want to configure encryption of the connection between a Light Agent and SVM.
3. In the workspace, select the Policies tab.
4. In the list of policies, select a policy for Light Agent for Windows if you want to configure the settings for Light Agent for Windows, or select a policy for Light Agent for Linux if you want to configure the settings for Light Agent for Linux.

   Double-click to open the Properties: <Policy name> window.

5. In the list on the left, select the SVM selection algorithm section.
6. Select one of the following options:
   • Use a standard SVM selection algorithm
     

     If this option is selected, after installation and startup on the virtual machine, the Light Agent tries to connect to the SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running. If there are no SVMs available for connection on the hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent selects from the SVMs deployed on other hypervisors the SVM to which the fewest Light Agents are connected.

     This option is selected by default.

   • Use an advanced SVM selection algorithm
     

     If this option is selected, you can specify with the SVM path slider how Light Agents take into account SVM location when selecting an SVM for connection. For example, a Light Agent can connect to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor cluster or in the same Datacenter as the Light Agent. The Light Agent does not have to take into account SVM location in its selection. By default, the Light Agent connects to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running.

     When selecting an SVM, Light Agents take into account the number of Light Agents connected to this SVM to ensure that Light Agents are evenly spread between SVMs available for connection.

7. If you selected Use an advanced SVM selection algorithm, use the SVM path slider to specify how the Light Agent should take into account SVM location when selecting an SVM for connection. You can set the slider in one of the following positions:
   • Hypervisor. The Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running. If there is no SVM available for connection on the hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
   • Cluster. The Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed in the same cluster in which the Light Agent is running. If there is no SVM available for connection in the cluster in which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
   • Datacenter. The Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed in the same Datacenter in which the Light Agent is running. If there is no SVM available for connection in the Datacenter in which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
   • Ignore SVM path. The Light Agent does not take SVM location into account in the selection.

   The default slider position is Hypervisor.

8. Click the Apply button.

To specify in the local interface which SVM selection algorithm is to be used by the Light Agent:

1. Open the application settings window.
2. In the left part of the window, in the Connection to SVM section, select SVM selection algorithm.
3. Complete steps 6-7 of the previous instructions.

   If the settings in the local interface are not available, this means that the values of settings defined by the policy are used for all protected virtual machines of the administration group.

4. To save changes, click the Save button.
