Light Agents may use an extended SVM selection algorithm, if you use the application under an enterprise license.
You can specify the SVM selection algorithm to be used by Light Agents in the Light Agent policy properties using the Administration Console, in the Light Agent for Windows local interface, and using the Web Console when creating or editing the Light Agent for Windows policy settings and the Light Agent for Linux policy settings (Application settings → Connection to SVM → SVM selection algorithm).
To specify the SVM selection algorithm to be used by Light Agents in the Administration Console:
Open Kaspersky Security Center Administration Console.
In the Managed devices folder of the console tree, select the folder with the name of the administration group for whose protected virtual machines you want to configure secure connection between a Light Agent and SVM.
In the workspace, select the Policies tab.
In the list of policies, select a policy for Light Agent for Windows if you want to configure the settings for Light Agent for Windows, or select a policy for Light Agent for Linux if you want to configure the settings for Light Agent for Linux.
Double-click to open the Properties: <Policy name> window.
In the list on the left, select the SVM selection algorithm section.
If this option is selected and you are using the application under a standard commercial license, after installation and startup on the virtual machine, the Light Agent tries to connect to the SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running. If there are no SVMs available for connection on the hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent selects the SVM with the lowest number of Light Agent connections from a list of SVMs deployed on other hypervisors.
If this option is selected and you are using the application under an enterprise license, after installation and startup on the virtual machine, the Light Agent selects the SVM to which the least number of Light Agents are connected, regardless of the location of the SVM in the virtual infrastructure.
If this option is selected, you can use the SVM path slider to choose how Light Agents should take into account the location of SVMs when selecting which SVM to connect to. For example, a Light Agent can connect to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor cluster or in the same Datacenter as the Light Agent. However, the SVM location does not have to be taken into account when a Light Agent selects an SVM. By default, a Light Agent connects to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running.
If you selected the custom list of SVM addresses as an SVM discovery method, the Light Agents can be connected to SVM, only if the SVM path is not taken into account. You need to set the value of SVM path parameter to Ignore SVM path.
When selecting SVMs, Light Agents consider the number of Light Agents connected to an SVM to ensure that Light Agents are evenly distributed among SVMs available for connection.
If you selected Use an advanced SVM selection algorithm and the Integration Server is used for SVM discovery by Light Agents, use the SVM path slider to specify how the Light Agent should take into account the SVM location in the virtual infrastructure when selecting an SVM for connection. You can set the slider in one of the following positions:
Hypervisor. Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed on the same hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running. If there are no SVMs available for connection on the hypervisor on which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
Cluster. Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed on the same cluster in which the Light Agent is running. If there are no SVMs available for connection in the same cluster in which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
Datacenter. Light Agent chooses to connect to an SVM deployed in the same Datacenter in which the Light Agent is running. If there are no SVMs available for connection in the same Datacenter in which the Light Agent is running, the Light Agent does not connect to an SVM.
Ignore SVM path. Light Agent selects an SVM regardless of its location.
By default, the slider is set on Hypervisor.
If you selected a custom list of SVM addresses as the method used by Light Agents to discover SVMs, you must set the Ignore SVM path value for the SVM path parameter. If any other value is set, the Light Agents will not be available to connect to SVM.
Click the Apply button.
To specify in the local interface which SVM selection algorithm is to be used by the Light Agent:
In the left part of the window, in the Connection to SVM section, select SVM selection algorithm.
If the settings in the local interface are not available, this means that the values of settings defined by the policy are used for all protected virtual machines of the administration group.
