Upgrading the Light Agent for Windows component

The Light Agent for Windows component is upgraded by installing a new version of the Light Agent for Windows component on protected virtual machines. Installation is performed locally on the virtual machine or remotely via Kaspersky Security Center, or using Active Directory Group Policies.

If Citrix App Layering (formerly UniDesk) virtualization solution is installed in your infrastructure and you use the Full User Layer to save the state of temporary virtual machines, perform the following actions before updating Light Agent for Windows on a virtual machine template:

  1. Using the User Layer Repair utility, delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\KasperskyLab\ registry key on the user layer. Refer to Citrix App Layering documentation for details.
  2. Make sure that the user layer does not have the %programdata%\KasperskyLab, %programdata%\Kaspersky Lab and %programfiles(x86)%\Kaspersky Lab folders created during preparation for installing the application. If the user layer has the specified folders, delete them.

The upgraded Light Agent for Windows component uses the application settings that were configured for the previous version of Light Agent for Windows. Settings that were absent from the previous version of the application take the default values.

Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 5.1 Light Agent and Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 5.0 Light Agent do not use multicast to transmit SVM information to Light Agents. SVMs relay information about themselves to the Integration Server. If SVM discovery using multicast was configured in the policy settings of Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 4.0 Light Agent, after upgrading the application you must configure the settings for SVM discovery by Light Agents in the Light Agent for Windows policy or in the local interface of Light Agent.

After upgrading Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 4.0 Light Agent, the Application Startup Control component works with the default settings because the functionality of the component was changed in later versions of the application. It is recommended to configure the Application Startup Control settings in the Light Agent for Windows policy. You cannot configure the component settings through the Light Agent local interface.

After the Light Agent for Windows component has been upgraded, all backup copies of files created during file disinfection and deletion are saved on the protected virtual machine. You can manage Backup files through the local interface of the application.

After being launched on the virtual machine, the updated Light Agent component connects to the SVM with the new version of the Protection Server component.

If errors occur in the operation of the application after Light Agent for Windows upgrade, you can return to using the previous version of the Light Agent for Windows component. To do so, you must uninstall the new version of the Light Agent for Windows component on the virtual machine and then install the previous version of the Light Agent for Windows component.
