If you are an active Internet user, you normally have to use many different passwords, such as when visiting websites of banks, social networks, and mail services. It is not convenient to use a large number of passwords because you have to remember which password you use on a particular website. This frequently causes users to resort to the easy solution of using one simple password on different websites. However, this is not a secure solution. A simple password that is used on several websites can be easily cracked or intercepted by hackers. If this happens on a banking website, you risk losing your money.
Whenever you create a password on a website, Kaspersky Security checks the strength of your password. If your password is too weak, Kaspersky Security displays a notification. By clicking the link in the notification window, you can download Kaspersky Password Manager and use this application to create a strong password.
Kaspersky Security checks whether or not you previously used the password that you are creating or entering on websites of the following categories:
If the password that you are entering on these categories of websites have already been used on other websites, Kaspersky Security shows you a notification that prompts you to create a new password.
Kaspersky Security uses local storage to save the passwords that you enter on websites. When you re-enter a password on any website, the application will prompt you to enter the password that you previously saved in local storage. You can clean up the local storage and delete all passwords from it in the Kaspersky Security configuration window.
If you have downloaded and installed Kaspersky Password Manager, password management functionality is disabled. Kaspersky Security will not monitor the creation of passwords, will not check the use of a password on other websites, and will not show notifications about the strength of a password on other websites. Password protection will be provided by Kaspersky Password Manager. For more details about how to protect your passwords, please refer to the Help text for Kaspersky Password Manager.
Kaspersky Security does not show notifications about the use of a password on other websites if you have downloaded and installed Kaspersky Fraud Prevention for Endpoints version 3.5 or later.
